Parkside—the area of town surrounding Railroad Park—has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with new openings like The Fennec, Tasty Town, Monday Night Brewing and Michael’s Restaurant building on major draws like the Park, Regions Field and Good People Brewing Co.

Now, Orchestra Partners—the local developer behind projects like The Frank, Mercantile on Morris and Founders Station—is bringing even more excitement to Parkside with Urban Supply.

First proposed by Orchestra Partners in 2020, Urban Supply is a mixed-use redevelopment of several vacant warehouses and an alleyway near Good People Brewing Co. Here are the details:

  • Roughly 100,000 square feet of community-centered commercial space in six buildings across two blocks, all centered on a pedestrian alley.
  • The 1930s-era warehouses are being renovated into modern environments that pay homage to the area’s history.
  • The development will feature sections for local restaurants, fitness-focused businesses and entertainment.

The Urban Supply development will be accessible by The Aisle—a formerly overgrown alleyway transformed into a space for multiple outdoor activities.

Landscaping at The Aisle is nearly complete, with a few final features—such as a metal bridge—going in March.

“I’m so excited to see everything coming together at Urban Supply and the momentum it brings to the Parkside District. This project has been in the making for almost a decade.

The inspiration came from Good People’s use of the alleyway as a place for gathering outdoors and grabbing a beer with friends. We had a vision in 2016 to extend that alleyway into what is now known as The Aisle, a two-block pedestrian-friendly community space that connects people in the heart of Birmingham, just steps from Railroad Park and Regions Field.”

Meanwhile, several exciting new tenants plan to open at Urban Supply this year:

“Bringing a bold dream to fruition takes patience and perseverance. Our commitment to helping Birmingham become a vibrant, walkable city has been at the forefront of everything we do, and it’s fueled us through many hardships, including a nationwide lockdown.

Now, as we put the final touches on The Aisle and welcome a unique mix of businesses new to the Birmingham market, we look forward to seeing families and friends gather and enjoy what downtown has to offer.”
