Founders Station to open soon in downtown Birmingham; condos, new restaurants and speakeasy
Founders Station, the four-building 60,000 square foot project downtown, on the corner of First Avenue North and Morris Avenue will be completed in April.
Real estate developer Orchestra Partners founders, John Boone and Hunter Renfroe always dreamed of one day helping to revitalize their hometown. Their new project, Founders Station, continues the revitalization of downtown Birmingham.
Hunter Renfroe. Orchestra Partners. The residential spaces have been pre-sold and most of the retail space is already leased. The owners of these condo homes will be neighbors with Metropolitan LLC project Row5, another residential project on Morris Avenue.

Looks like there will be some interesting new businesses opening this summer. The Essential will be a restaurant and bar headed up by Feast & Forests’ Victor King and Kristin Farmer Hall. Great news, this New American style restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
Another restaurant will be Cayo Coco from the owner of The Collins Bar. Cayo Coco will have an open kitchen concept so diners can watch the chefs create Spanish tapas and Basque inspired dishes. Sounds like a cool addition to the downtown dining scene.
What’s a rathskeller?
rathskeller: noun raths·kel·ler \ ˈrät-ˌske-lər , ˈrat- , ˈrath- \a basement tavern or restaurant
A bar or rathskeller will take the basement space of the Caldwell-Milner building. The alley entrance and exposed, 130 year old brick walls will give this new spot a “speak easy” feel with jazzy tunes, classic cocktails and Tequila/Mezcal drink recipes.
Looks like Orchestra Partners’ Founders Station will be a welcome addition to downtown with its upscale condos and these interesting dining and drinking spots. There are still some office spaces available if you are looking.
