6th Annual Surgeons vs Chefs Pumpkin Carve Off


The 6th Annual Brookwood Surgeons vs Chefs Pumpkin Carve Off is back and at the Market at Pepper Place on Saturday, October 29th!

Brookwood Baptist Health has partnered with the Market at Pepper Place to present the 6th annual pumpkin carving contest. This festive event shows off the best of what Birmingham is known for – doctors and chefs! Top orthopedic surgeons are pitted against top chefs to win the live carving contest. Pumpkins will be judged on precision, skill and creativity. Possibly the best part, it is FREE and open to the public.

One part – A cocktail party – You can buy a ticket or make a donation and attend one of the coolest fundraising events of the year in Birmingham tomorrow night, Thursday, Oct. 13th at Iron City.

If you can’t attend, let’s say your kids have a soccer game, or you’ve got deadlines at work – Register for the online event. In both cases, you create your own personal fundraising page. And you can do either RIGHT NOW!

Beach Boys Fans Rejoice! Brian Wilson is Coming to Birmingham

Brian Wilson, the lead singer of The Beach Boys, is currently on tour in honor of the 50th anniversary of “Pet Sounds” – one of the most magical albums ever (okay, that’s totally my opinion, but it really is a masterpiece).

Wilson will be making a 2017 tour stop at the BJCC Concert Hall along with his band to perform “Pet Sounds” in its entirety. Fans will also hear some of their favorite Beach Boys tunes and solo material of Wilson’s.

I will refrain from making any Beach Boys puns… LOL just kidding – wouldn’t it be nice to see you there! God only knows that you’ll have FUN FUN FUN.

Audubon Teaches Nature begins 26th year with a reptile sampler


For 26th year, the Birmingham Audubon Society, along with co-sponsors the Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and the Friends of Oak Mountain State Park are presenting the Audubon Teaches Nature (ATN) Series seminars.

Exploring and celebrating the diversity of Alabama’s natural history, these seminars provide the public with the knowledge and skills to enjoy your time in the field,  whether you are birding, hiking, biking or just exploring the outdoors.

Meet and learn from some of Alabama’s leading naturalists this fall and Spring, beginning on Sunday, October 23rd. Here is the recently released Audubon Teaches Nature 2016/2017 schedule:

Birmingham Museum of Art introduces Art After 5

Starting this Friday from 5pm to 9pm, the Birmingham Museum of Art will be hosting a new series, Art After 5.

Every first Friday, the museum will feature new art and entertainment with a lot of opportunities to unwind from the week. This will include mini studio art classes, guest musicians, tapas tastings, local mixologists, and art history hacks with experts.

The event is FREE for Members and only $10 for General Admission.

On Friday, you will have the opportunity to peruse through the Ghoulish Gallery Tour with Angela May of the BMA’s Education Department, watch a performance by Contemporary jazz duo Michael Glaser and Choko Aken on piano and drums. You will also get the chance to enjoy a Mini Studio Class with Instructor Meredith Knight and treat yourself to cocktails by the guest mixologist Feizal Valli of downtown’s soon-to-open, The Atomic Lounge.

Add a little Art to your Friday and enjoy the BMA’s newest series.
