A flight from blight 💫

In three decades we’ve been introduced to the Internet, Birkenstocks have come both in and out of style and still, the historic Ramsay-McCormack Building in downtown Ensley remained in disrepair. Finally, Mayor Woodfin, Innovation Depot and Birmingham Promise announced plans to welcome it into the 21st century. Luckily, the building gets to skip the year 2020 with a proposed redevelopment date of 2022.

Class, say hello to the new student 👩‍🏫

We felt smarter just reading about the University of North Alabama’s (UNA) new Executive Doctor of Business Administration (EDBA) program. Now, it won’t be long until UNA welcomes the first cohort. Before the bell rang, we caught up with two professors who shared their excitement in welcoming the cohort to the program. Good news: there’s still time to apply.

Can I un-Super Size that order?
🍟

If bugs have taught us anything, it’s that bigger is definitely not always better. Several developers are bringing micro-unit student housing to Birmingham. While the space may be smaller, your back yard includes the hottest spots in the city. After all, aren’t those HGTV shows always saying, “Location, location, location?”

Colonel Sanders has competition 🍗

Out of the way KFC, a different acronym is crowned king of fried chicken next weekend. Les Dames D’Escoffier International Birmingham, or LDIE, is bringing us their Champagne & Fried Chicken fundraiser drive-thru style this year. This window service doesn’t come with a toy, but you can win $1200 in prizes from Birmingham businesses through their raffle. Pick up your basket Sunday, October 18 from 2:30-5:30PM at The Market at Pepper Place.
