Founded in Michigan in 2022, Shibam Coffee Co. is a unique coffee shop brand that specializes in premium Yemeni coffee, tea and traditional pastries. Taking its name from the historic city in Yemen, the brand works with Yemeni farmers who have been cultivating coffee for generations.

Today, the brand operates 22 locations throughout the country in states like New York, Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida—and soon, Alabama.

Located at 4647 US-280 near ALDI, Art’s Music Shop and Chuck E. Cheese’s in Inverness, Shibam Coffee Co.’s first Alabama location is owned by Mahmoud, a passionate coffee drinker who chose the Shibam Coffee Co. brand because of its quality.

“Coffee is coffee, but not all coffee is the same. I really pride myself on just how good our coffee is.”

Mahmoud

According to Mahmoud, the coffee beans are shipped green from farms in Yemen to the company’s Michigan roastery, where they are roasted before being distributed to the brand’s 22 locations throughout the country.

The quality of coffee isn’t the only reason Mahmoud is excited to introduce Birmingham customers to Shibam Coffee Co. In the Middle East, coffee shops are places to hang out with friends until late into the night—not just grab a morning pick-me-up on the way to work.

That tradition is part of the reason Mahmoud plans to stay open late, giving customers a place to study, meet friends or enjoy a cup ofcoffee after dark.

“In the Middle East, coffee is like an anytime thing. It’s not a morning thing. I want this space to be welcoming and inviting to all, and I want our guests to feel like they can stay here for as long as they want to hang out with friends, study, work or whatever they need to do.
