The holidays have passed, football season’s wrapped up…friends and relatives are all back home. As we settle back in to regular work weeks, and the routine returns, it’s nice to have small things to look forward to.
Big things are always happening in Birmingham. All morning long there has been smiles and hugs between employees and long time customers, as Urban Standard, the popular downtown coffeehouse and cafe on 2nd Avenue North, opened its doors for the first time since a January fire forced the business to temporarily close.

Crestwood Coffee Company/Cafe is stepping forward to help Urban Standard staff recover after the downtown coffeehouse closed for repairs earlier this month because of a fire.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25th, from 6:30am to 2:00pm, Crestwood Coffee Company/Cafe will be donating all tips to Urban Standard staff. Along with the tips given by patrons, Crestwood Coffee will also match the donated tips.
In two weeks, when you drop by the local OHenry’s Coffees shop, and buy yourself a steaming winter treat, you will be drinking one of the first cups of “solar powered coffee” in Alabama.
