Whether you’re a devoted Seeds in West Homewood fan or prefer the cozy atmosphere of Church Street in Crestline, your opinion matters!

We partnered with Marketing students in the Brock School of Business at Samford University to gather locals’ opinions on Birmingham coffee houses.

As part of a senior-level Market Research course, a group of students crafted a survey to uncover participants’ favorite coffee houses in Birmingham.

When I asked Bridwell about coffee shops being the topic for research, she excitedly revealed that their professor, Dr. Clifton Eason, sparked the idea.

Bridwell, being a total coffee enthusiast, couldn’t wait to dive into the data.

This survey allows you to evaluate different aspects of your preferred coffee spot, including:

  • Atmosphere
  • Quality of food
  • Sustainability practices
  • Variety of beverages
  • + more

Bridwell and her classmates spent the first half of the semester learning core concepts in market research. In the second half, they perform real market research.

“While we usually do this research for local businesses, our students thought it would be interesting this term to do a survey for a whole industry—in this case, local coffee houses.

The students are excited to collect Birmingham’s opinions and then share those with Bham Now’s readers.”

Clifton Eason, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Marketing, Samford University

Bridwell explained she has already learned skills from developing and refining surveys to distribution strategies and is eager to analyze the data.

Our focus is to gather real-time data through a survey, which we’ll give to coffee shops across the area.

Our goal is to capture customer feedback and, ultimately, unveil what is the best coffee shop in Birmingham according to the eyes of the consumers.

Under Dr. Eason’s guidance, we’ve been honing our skills in data mining and mastering the art of navigating through vast datasets.”

Ally Bridwell, Student, Samford University

When I asked Bridwell about her top pick for a coffee hangout in Birmingham, she found it tough to choose between Seeds and Caveat, mainly because of the vibes and sense of community they offer.
