It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.

From a new arcade in Bessemer to a new ice cream shop opening in Five Points West, here are six businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two local businesses we’ll miss.

2. Little Luna Pizza | Bluff Park

A new restaurant is now open in Bluff Park! Little Luna Pizza, a takeout only pizzeria serving up high quality, New York inspired pizzas. Each pizza is made with cold-fermented dough, California grown tomatoes, aged mozzarella, and fresh meats and vegetables.

They’re baked in a high temperature stone oven for a thin, crisp and airy finish. Little Luna also offers a curated selection of fresh salads, creamy gelato, and delicious desserts.

7. Birmingham Festival Theatre | Five Points South

Birmingham Festival Theatre (BFT) is moving out of its Five South location of 53 years at the end of May due to rising operational costs.

Located at 1901 1/2 11th Avenue South, the intimate theater with a capacity of 100 is home to the oldest black box theater in Alabama, according to BFT.

Despite its departure from its original space, BFT is still very much alive. As an all-volunteer, non-profit theatrical group, BFT will continue to produce performances, such as the upcoming rendition of Little Shop of Horrors which is co-produced with Encore Theatre in June.

Staff have assured the community that they are in the process of looking for a new venue.

8. Hero Diner | Railroad Park

Another Birmingham-area Hero Diner location has closed its doors—at least for now.

A sign posted Monday morning at Hero Diner’s Railroad Park location at 1701 First Ave. S. says the restaurant is “temporarily closed.” The closure comes just weeks after HERO’s Hoover location at Stadium Trace Village permanently shuttered on April 12. That same day, Tasty Town Greek Restaurant in Parkside—also owned by Pihakis Restaurant Group (PRG)—abruptly closed.

At this time, it is unclear when (or if) the Railroad Park location will reopen.
