Project LeanNation (PLN) is officially setting up shop in Birmingham, bringing a tech-enabled, coaching-first approach to meal prepping and nutrition.

Forrest Walden, a familiar face in the Birmingham fitness scene, is the owner of the upcoming location, and he shared what he is most excited about and what folks can expect from PLN with Bham Now.

A local fitness veteran’s new mission

Forrest Walden is no stranger to helping Birmingham stay active. After 25 years of owning and operating fitness brands like Fitness Together and Iron Tribe Fitness, he realized exercise was only half the battle.

“I would teach them how to grocery shop, I’d teach them how to meal prep, I’d teach them how to eat out. But at the end of the day, life gets in the way…

“The people who always got the best results over the last 25 years were the people who got serious about their nutrition.”

Project LeanNation fixes that roadblock, he said, by combining ready-to-eat meals with one-on-one nutritional coaching.

Birmingham already has one PLN location in Meadowbrook, located at 1801 Doug Baker Blvd Suite 111. After the Homewood opening, there should be one more location on the way, according to the expansion announcement from PLN in December 2025.

More than just a meal prep service

What sets PLN apart from a standard meal delivery is the coaching component. Every member starts with a consultation using an “InBody” scan to determine their basic metabolic rate.

From there, coaches help you decide on a plan based on your specific goals:

  • Calorie deficit: For those looking to lose weight
  • Calorie surplus: For those looking to gain muscle
  • Maintenance: For those who just want to eat healthy without the stress of cooking

Members are in complete control via the PLN app, where they can choose from 30 different meal options each week, with boxes available in sizes of 12, 18 or 24 meals.

Grand opening + Founding Member deals

The Homewood location is officially eyeing June 6 for its first fulfillment date. To celebrate the launch, they are currently offering a Founding Member deal. Those who sign up before the doors officially open will get $20 off every box of meals for life.

Walden said more than 75 people have already jumped on the deal as the storefront nears completion.
