Downtown YMCA listed for $5.75M by Ironvest Partners

What’s happening: After 37 years, the YMCA of Greater Birmingham has officially been listed for sale at $5.75 million by Ironvest Partners. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, the Y is actively seeking to relocate to a building with a smaller footprint in Birmingham.

Why it matters: The building at 2101 4th Avenue North has been home to the YMCA of Greater Birmingham since the facility opened in 1985. Now, the 89,286-sq.-ft. property will find a new tenant. Located in an Opportunity Zone, the building is conveniently within walking distance of businesses, restaurants, bars, hotels, theaters and city parks.

Davenport’s Pizza Palace opens 2nd location in Vestavia Hills

What’s happening: Davenport’s, one of the oldest and longest-running pizzerias in Alabama, has opened their second location in Vestavia Hills. Complete with a nostalgic game room, TVs, a bar area and, of course, one-of-a-kind pizza, you’ll want to grab the fam and stop by.

Why it matters: Davenport’s Pizza Palace owner Amanda Thames and her cousin Yates Norris are the 3rd generation in their family to own and operate the pizza spot. Davenport’s Mountain Brook location has been thriving for 58 years. We’re happy to see a long-standing family-owned business expand.

K & J’s Elegant Pastries coming to Ross Bridge

What’s happening: On Friday, October 7, fan-favorite local bakery K & J’s Elegant Pastries announced the opening of a new location in Ross Bridge, taking the place of the former Dreamcakes Cafe.

Why it matters: With delicious shakes, cakes, cookies and more sweet treats, K & J’s Elegant Pastries are building on their success after opening a new location in Uptown last spring. Follow the Food Network-recognized pastry shop on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the know about the new location.

New Atlanta-based entertainment concept coming to Urban Supply

What’s happening: Atlanta-based entertainment concept Fairway Social brings fun virtual gaming bays to Parkside District’s Urban Supply. This family-friendly spot will include a full-service restaurant and bar, live music, darts, cornhole, ping pong and virtual games including football, golf and soccer.

Why it matters: Urban Supply is an up-and-coming hub for activity in Birmingham’s Parkside District. Brought to you by Orchestra Partners, Urban Supply is a two-block area that connects food and beverage options with fitness, fashion and outdoor retail. Fairway Social will join current Urban Supply tenants Thrive Coworking, Good People Brewing and Tortugas Pizza. Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2023.
