10 of the hottest new bars + restaurants in Birmingham that opened this spring
In the past few months, we’ve seen tons of new restaurants in Birmingham open to excited (and hungry) crowds. Here are 10 of the most popular spots that opened in Birmingham in March, April and May, in no particular order.
1. Parkside on Fifth | Avondale
This new bar might have a similar name as its previous occupant, but it’s got new ownership and a brand-new menu. Parkside on Fifth is located in Avondale and features cocktails on draft, craft cocktails and a fantastic food menu. I’ve already been multiple times, and I love the welcoming atmosphere and everything I’ve tried on the menu so far—the curry fried chicken is a stand-out though.
PS: Parkside on Fifth joins Munchies on 5th (which opened in February) and The Goose (which opened in May) as brand-new Avondale spots.
- Location: 4036 5th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35222
- Hours: Wednesday & Thursday 3PM-Midnight | Friday & Saturday 3PM-2AM | Sunday Brunch 11AM-5PM | Closed Monday & Tuesday

2. Lady E’s Chick’n Cafe | Downtown

3. Tina’s & Gina’s | Downtown
The Pizitz Food Hall is one of my favorite spots to eat thanks to their rotating stalls of food options. In February, we announced that Tina’s & Gina’s would be coming to The Pizitz, and in April, the New York-style deli officially opened. Their menu highlights include chopped cheese, Italian and pastrami sandwiches.

4. SOCU | Downtown
The Pizitz Food Hall keeps introducing fantastic new restaurants in Birmingham—including the newest addition, SOCU Southern Kitchen and Oyster Bar. SOCU officially opened in early May with a menu of oysters, brunch items, unique apps like candied bacon or fried lobster deviled eggs and more.
- Location: The Pizitz Food Hall | 1821 2nd Ave N #3112, Birmingham, AL 35203

8. Good Dog Bar & Dog Park | Downtown
One of the most anticipated openings in Birmingham, Good Dog Bar & Dog Park, isn’t just an opening for humans—it’s for your four-legged furry friends, too.
