Happy Monday, Birmingham—you’ve made it to February. Start the new month by getting in the know. Four new businesses, including a boutique gym specializing in infrared saunas, are headed to The Magic City; We’re also saying goodbye to two local favorites. Let’s take a look. 

1. HOTWORX | Lakeview

HOTWORX, a boutique gym specializing in infrared saunas, recently launched a new location in Lakeview. The gym offers various saunas tailored for different workouts, with members able to schedule sessions through the HOTWORX app. Plus, there is a well-equipped strength-training area featuring dumbbells, weights, ropes and more.

2. Hero Doughnuts | Homewood

Hero Doughnuts in Homewood is relocating. But no need to worry—the new eatery is just a half-mile down the street located at 1726 28th Avenue South. The new location is set to open on Tuesday, February 6.

3. Lag’s Eatery | Avondale

Crestwood residents Eric Wallace and Justin Shubert are introducing a new Lag’s Eatery in Avondale, featuring breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night options. The restaurant pays homage to the original Lag’s Eatery that served the Homewood community from the 1970s until 2009.

4. Carhartt | The Summit

Carhartt is set to open its first Alabama store at The Summit in Birmingham on Thursday, February 8. The 135-year-old family-owned brand specializes in durable workwear apparel.

Closings

1. Ore Mercantile |  Avondale

Ore Mercantile, a local establishment found in the Avondale Mills Shopping Center will be closing its doors after five years. The last day of business is scheduled for Saturday, February 17. 

2. Post Office Pies | Avondale

Post Office Pies will be shutting down its Avondale location after a decade in operation. The restaurant’s Mountain Brook branch will continue to serve customers.
