I’m a sucker for trying out new things, so I’m looking forward to visiting these new Birmingham businesses. From a new place to sweat it out to delectable, sweet pastries, there are an abundance of spots to get excited about in The Magic City.

1. Hello Bakery | Crestline

Wim Miree, a well-known pastry chef in Birmingham for 26+ years, just opened his own bakery and my stomach is grumbling at the thought of his scrumptious pastries. Hello Bakery is now serving fresh pastries and homemade small-batch ice cream in Crestline Gardens. You can catch me there sipping on a cup of coffee and chowing down on a croissant in the morning.

2. Johnny Was | The Summit

My closet is flipping out—Johnny Was, a California-based women’s fashion lifestyle brand, just opened its first Alabama location in The Summit. I’m seriously in love with the bold colors and floral prints. There’s more than just stylish clothing—you can find a gorgeous array of jewelry and accessories to top off your outfit.

3. Last Call Baking Co. | Downtown

Birmingham, we know you’ve been craving this opening for a hot minute. On November 5, Last Call Baking Co. soft launched their brick-and-mortar store. With absolutely stunning baked goods that taste just as good as they look, this bakery sure knows how to whip up yummy treats. I’d recommend the blueberry cream danish—YUM!

4. Spartan Fitness | Moody

I grew up watching “The Karate Kid,” and now I’m ready to learn the moves. According to The Homewood Star, Spartan Fitness, a martial arts school, is planning to open a second location in Moody. Currently, they have a mixed martial arts gym in Homewood. From Jiu Jitsu to kickboxing, it’s not just a workout—you’ll learn incredible self-defense skills as well.

5. X⁴ Fitness | Downtown

It can be hard to motivate yourself to work out. X⁴ Fitness is making it easy for you to crush your fitness goals with their all-star team of coaches who lead you through 60-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) style workouts. The day is FINALLY here—Jeni’s is opening in Lane Park. I’ve been waiting for this day to come for a while. It may be getting chilly out soon, but a scoop of Gooey Butter Cake is always in season. Who doesn’t love free ice cream? On Thursday, November 10 at 7PM, everyone can get a scoop on the house for the grand opening.

8. Biscuit Love | Cahaba Heights

In the south, we love warm, flaky biscuits. Biscuit Love, a Nashville-based brunch concept, is coming to Cahaba Heights by mid-December. From the classic biscuit and sausage gravy to a biscuit with a Nashville-style hot chicken thigh, we know this place will be your new go-to brunch spot.

9. Morning Sickness Clinic | Hwy 280

  • Book your spot on the calendar for your flower arrival date.
  • Appoint someone to get your flowers or bouquet ready to ship to Heidi Cat the day after your event. They have local drop-off and pick-up options if you’re in Birmingham.
  • Once your flowers arrive at Heidi Cat, the drying process begins, which can take up to four weeks.
  • The design and pouring processes begin—you’ll receive a design mock-up.
