Looking for that extra bit of holiday cheer? You’ve come to the right place, because we’re  because we’re dishing out five of Birmingham’s new openings to get excited about. Let’s grab a cup of coffee and get into it.

1. Hand and Stone | Vestavia Hills

new openings
In need of some R&R? Check out Hand and Stone this week. Photo via Hand and Stone Vestavia Hills

Ready to relax in the new year? Hand and Stone is Birmingham’s newest massage and facial spa that offers so much more than once-a-year treatments. Owner Caroline Goldasich is active in the community and wants Hand and Stone to become a part of the community in ways that your typical spa won’t.

Caroline has always been interested in the health and wellness community but has never pursued it professionally until now. She loves all Hand and Stone treatments, but her favorite is Deep Tissue Massage. Since they just opened, they are running special deals for early birds—just $69.95 for a one hour Swedish massage OR a one hour classic facial.

Stay tuned for a grand opening celebration in early 2022.

“It’s something that I’m interested in. I love to exercise, I love skincare, I’m always trying new things and doing new things and I’ve been that way for as long as I can remember. That’s one reason why Hand and Stone is exciting for me. It’s something that I’m personally interested in that translates in a professional aspect.”

2. Full Circle Birmingham

Full Circle. New openings.
Goodies from Full Circle Birmingham—can’t wait to shop. Photo via Full Circle Birmingham

Full Circle Birmingham is far from a new concept for The Friendship Circle of Alabama, but their new storefront deserves all the recognition. Now located right off Linden Ave, this upscale resale store was originally housed in the Levite JCC but decided to spread its wings to a more permanent home.

The best part about Full Circle Birmingham? They provide job training for individuals with developmental disabilities and teach them the practical skills of employment. Come out to Homewood to not only score some cute, sustainable threads, but also make a difference in the lives of others. While online shopping is not yet available, you can shop their Poshmark store here.

Full Circle Birmingham wouldn’t be complete without their donations or volunteers. If you have gently used pieces that could use a new home, please consider donating to Full Circle Birmingham. The donation forms and volunteer information can be found on their website.

3. Local Roots | Birmingham

This Tuscaloosa favorite has officially made its way North to Birmingham. Local Roots—an Alabama-based, fast casual restaurant, believes in the power of good food bringing people together. The inspiration behind their business? Owner Dustin Spruill’s grandfather, Harold. The same way he cared for his garden, Spruill wants to continue sharing his passions and food with an Alabama audience.

They boast quite an impressive line-up with chef Brandon Wiman—a Culinary Institute of America graduate. He has worked with James Beard award-winning chefs Chris Hastings of Hot and Hot Fish Club and Brian Somershield of El Barrio and Paramount.

This new location will be a can’t miss. I know we’re already looking forward to the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Tenders. Yum!

4. Frido Kahlo Modern Mexican Cuisine

Pelham, get ready for your newest Mexican restaurant—Frida Kahlo Modern Mexican Cuisine. Inspired by the famous Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo, this modern Mexican restaurant focuses on a sophisticated twist of classic dishes. Count us in for the Tacos Jamaica, please! Not in the mood for Mexican? They even have the basics on their menu including “La Torturada”—a beef and pork hamburger.

“VIVA LA VIDA” or “Long live life” in English is written all over their website and communications, plus is connected to artist Frida Kahlo. I think that’s a beautiful description of not only their food, but of this Birmingham opening’s vibe as a whole. We can’t wait to try it out soon.

5. Juniper

new openings

A gin bar coming to Forest Park? Sign us up. You may recall a couple of months ago when we wrote about this spot taking the place of Little Savannah, but the time has finally arrived for Juniper to open its doors.

Although the grand opening is still TBD due to their liquor license, this new spot is sure to be a holiday hit in the next couple of weeks. Rumor has it that these drinks are picture perfect, and so is the space. We can’t wait to see it bring the Forest Park community together.
