3. Overton Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors + you can get great challah next door
Any child who lives in the area (and plenty who live farther afield) has played at Overton Park. It’s also a popular spot for birthday parties, dog walking and leisurely walks.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the area on a Friday between around 11 and 3PM, you’ll want to stop by Chabad of Alabama for some of their delicious fresh-baked challah. Your French toast will never be the same.
4. Milo’s is coming to the old Rite Aid + new streetscapes
When I asked current residents and shopkeepers what they’re most excited about in the area, a lot of them said the widening of Crosshaven and the sidewalks that are coming soon.
Also, Milo’s Hamburgers will be moving into the former Rite Aid on Crosshaven by mid-fall 2020.
5. Parkside at Dolly Ridge + new athletic fields are on the way
For people who would like to do even more of their shopping in Cahaba Heights, soon they’ll be able to at Parkside at Dolly Ridge. Look for offices and retail near Cahaba Heights Elementary School, on Dolly Ridge Road. The original date for completion is in the final quarter of 2020.
It’ll tie in with the city’s master plan and a new athletic complex that’s being built behind the school. You’ll be able to enjoy batting cages, baseball fields, walking trails, a dog park and more These will be open to the community when they’re done. The original completion date for this project is summer of 2020.
6. Cahaba Heights Corner is coming between Martin’s BBQ + Philadelphia Baptist Church
On Pumphouse Road between Martin’s BBQ and Philadelphia Baptist Church will be a 1.5-acre mixed-use development. This is brought to you by Fresh Hospitality, the same people who brought Birmingham Taziki’s, Big Bad Breakfast and Martin’s BBQ.
Look for 7,750 square feet of office space and 3,600 feet of retail space.
7. A whole new neighborhood called Helen Ridge is on the way
Harris Doyle Homes is currently building a new community with 48 homes called Helen Ridge just off the intersection of Sicard Hollow and Cahaba Heights Roads. If you’re coming from 280 or The Colonnade, the entrance is just past Blue Lake on the right-hand side.
