As you drive around the southside of downtown Birmingham, it seems every building belongs to UAB. You’ve probably seen a few outdated buildings on the UAB campus that just don’t compare to the sleek, new and improved ones.

Another old historic Avondale building is being renovated, restored and redesigned. Not many of us were around in the 1930’s or 40s. If you were, you might have filled up at the Gulf gas station at 400 41st St. Then it became the Painted Shovel Mercantile antique shop. Now a new exciting urban retail/office center is in the works.

Hands on Birmingham is searching for volunteers for the 12th Annual Project Homeless Connect, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Boutwell Auditorium. It’s a really effective, unique program that helps our homeless population with simple, complex and necessary things all in one single day.
Hoover and football
Before I moved to Birmingham I thought of Hoover, AL as just the high school football stronghold of the state, maybe because of that TV show from a few years ago. Hoover is a thriving suburb of Birmingham, a small city with momentum that is continuing to see a surge of new housing, business centers and retail development.
