It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a popular authentic Mexican restaurant’s new location to a new YMCA playground, here are four businesses that should be on your radar — plus, three new businesses coming soon.

Now Open

1. Taqueria La Juanita | Irondale

Taqueria La Juanita, a popular authentic Mexican restaurant located in Leeds, has opened a second Birmingham-area location in Irondale! Located next to the Waffle House at 1819 Crestwood Blvd., the new Taqueria La Juanita is open daily from 10AM to 9PM.

2. YMCA playground | Hoover

Last week, the YMCA and the city of Hoover opened a new children’s playground at the Hoover Family YMCA. Named the McGregor-Sandlin Playground, the new recreational area is open to children who participate in the Y’s Child Watch and Summer Day Camp.

3. Scooter’s Coffee | Oneonta

Blount County residents have a brand-new spot to get their morning caffeine fix! Scooter’s Coffee, a Nebraska-based drive-thru coffee franchise, opened a new location in Oneonta earlier this month with a ribbon-cutting celebration that including the Blount-Oneonta Chamber of Commerce, community leaders and county officials.

To kick off the big launch, the new location celebrated its arrival with major opening-day perks for local coffee lovers, including free drinks, free swag and a week of free drinks for the first 100 app users.

4. Traveler’s Tea & Tomes

A new bookstore + cafe is now open in Oneonta! Located in the former Grapes & Hops space at 231 1st Avenue East, Traveler’s Tea & Tomes is a cozy new cafe that emphasizes regional products — like Alabama-grown Piper and Leaf tea — and features work from local authors, craft makers and artists immediately upon entry.

5. Ampersandwich’s second location | Downtown Birmingham

Ampersandwich, a popular sandwich shop located in Avondale, recently announced its plans to open a new location in downtown Birmingham! According to a recent post on social media, Ampersandwich is currently hiring for a new, second location in the former Zoe’s space at 1819 5th Ave N.

6. Onelife Fitness | Hoover

Onelife Fitness, a Virgina-based fitness chain, is opening its third Alabama location in Hoover. Located at 5569 Grove Blvd in Hoover shopping development The Grove, the new Onelife Fitness will offer amenities like:

  • Whirlpool
  • Exercise classes
  • Mind/body studio
  • Cardio + strength equipment
  • Kids Club
  • Indoor pool
  • Pickleball
  • + more

7. New world-class go-kart facility | Grand River Technology Park

The Birmingham City Council recently approved the sale of approximately 25 acres in the Grand River Technology Park to make way for a new karting facility near iconic Barber Motorsports Park. The undeveloped site sits along Barber Motorsports Parkway, and developers say the facility will offer something unique to the Southeast while helping introduce more people to the world of motorsports.
