A motion picture is filming in Birmingham’s Forest Park neighborhood.

According to workers on site and a story on Deadline.com, the feature film is called “The Girlfriend” starring Emmy-nominated Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”) and actor, writer and producer Glenn Howerton (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”).

Filming started today, June 29 on Glen View Road.

What is the movie about? From Deadline:

“Claire gives up her perfect New York City life and moves to Alabama for her husband Elliot’s (Howerton) dream job. Seeing her isolated, friendless, and unhappy, Elliot does what any loving husband would do: he secretly hires an escort (Fahy) to be her new best friend.”

In May, Goleman Casting posted a notice seeking to fill several roles by local talent.

The post also said filming was expected to begin June 29 and end July 31.

‘The Girlfriend’ is the 2nd major Birmingham film shot in 2026

This is the second major film to be shot in Birmingham this year.

In March, Alec Baldwin and James Gaffigan were seen shooting the film “Crosshairs” on Morris Avenue and at several locations around town.

“Birmingham has a growing and bustling film economy. Right now we have the most films at once in Birmingham than we’ve ever had before. It speaks to the growth of our film economy, from the top down all the way to local shorts, we’re seeing an influx in all film in Birmingham.

“It’s a really good thing, and we want more people to make films and allow films into their homes and businesses to advance the film economy of Birmingham.”
