1. Alabama State Games
- What: Get ready to cheer on the Alabama State Games June 12–14! The state’s biggest multi-sport event will bring thousands of athletes together across 28 sports for a weekend of competition, community and high-energy fun. From soccer and archery to kickball and equestrian, the celebration kicks off with an opening ceremony at Legacy Arena at the BJCC with a parade of athletes, cauldron lighting and live entertainment.

2. The Michael Conway Annual Display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt
- What: This weekend, Woodlawn UMC is hosting panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt—one of the largest community arts projects in history. It features nearly 50,000 panels remembering more than 110,000 individuals lost to HIV/AIDS.

3. Alabama Paleontology

4. Moonlight Movies feat. Zootopia 2
- What: Moonlight Movies returns to Lane Park on Friday, June 12 for an evening featuring the family-friendly film Zootopia 2. Grab a to-go meal from a local restaurant and set up a picnic dinner to enjoy during the show.

5. QuiltFest 2026
- What: Step into a world of color, texture and storytelling during QuiltFest 2026. You’ll join makers from across Central Alabama for two days celebrating creativity, community and the timeless art of quilting. During the showcase, there will be more than 300 stunning quilts on display, live demos, vendors, make-it + take-it activities, a silent auction benefiting Grace Klein Community and more.

6. Let’s Go Birding Together
- What: Spend a Saturday morning outside with Alabama Audubon and Jefferson County Greenways during this special early-access birding adventure at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Part of the national “Let’s Go Birding Together” initiative, you’ll explore the preserve with fellow nature lovers in search of breeding birds. Binoculars are available to borrow, or you can bring your own.

7. Run, Ride & Rumble for PTS Awareness benefiting Sojourn Counseling
- What: Show your support and raise awareness for Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and mental health outreach when you sign up for this event with Sojourn Counseling. Participants can choose from a 5K run, cycling rides or motorcycle rumble and take part in a celebration at Cahaba Brewing Company with live music, door prizes and lunch from Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant.

8. Junk for Fresh
- What: ChooseU is partnering with Sweet Grown Alabama for a one-day food swap event aimed to inspire healthier meal choices and to make fresh produce more accessible. 12. Hydrangeas Under the Stars 2026

14. Movies on the Mountain: Space Jam
- What: Break out the lawn chairs and shake out those picnic blankets—Movies on the Mountain is returning to Vulcan Park & Museum for a summer movie night with one of the best views in town. The season kicks off on Saturday, June 13 with an iconic ’90s movie favorite guaranteed to be a slam dunk: Space Jam. Leashed dogs are welcome, too!

16. Yard Party
- What: Attend Healing Alabama’s annual Yard Party for a fun afternoon at the Birmingham Tree House. There will be food by Chef Chase Rogers, vendors, yoga and more.

17. Together Under One Flag Celebration
EVENT UPDATE: Due to the threat of storms, the Together Under One Flag event will see some changes:
- STILL HAPPENING: Flag Day Retirement Ceremony — Sunday, June 14 at 1PM at Pelham Cemetery
- POSTPONED: Together Under One Flag live music event — rescheduled to Sept. 27 from 4–6:30PM at Pelham City Park
- What: Take part in this two-part Flag Day celebration in Pelham. The day begins with a solemn Flag Retirement Ceremony and will be followed by a hometown festival at Pelham City Park as part of an American 250 Celebration. The festival will feature live music, food trucks, family activities, patriotic crafts, games and more.

18. Survival of the Slowest (special exhibit)
- What: A real sloth is coming to McWane Science Center! Survival of the Slowest opens June 13 and is bringing live animal encounters and interactive fun that show how being a little bit slower than most (or a bit unusual) can be a superpower in the wild. Bonus: This exhibit is for all ages, so bring the whole family and spend the day exploring.

20. Revolutionary Roots: Celebrating Alabama’s Unique History + Natural Beauty
- What: Vulcan Park & Museum is honoring America’s 250th by spotlighting Alabama changemakers—past and present—who helped shape the state and country. From Calvin McGhee and Carrie Tuggle to Virginia Durr, Clyde Foster, Ashley M. Jones and Dr. Carlos E. Alemán, the display highlights powerful stories that are often overlooked. It all comes together around a striking tree installation that shows just how deep Alabama’s roots run.
