New + coming soon to the Magic City—bookstore, restaurants + more

From a new spot for sweet treats to a beloved bookstore’s big move, Birmingham is buzzing with excitement this week. Keep reading to check out some of the newest and greatest places coming soon.

1. Little Professor | Homewood

Little Professor, a well-known Birmingham bookstore, has moved down the street to the former Nadeau building on 18th street. The new book store location offers two stories of books, an expanded children’s area, outdoor space and more. Get ready for book clubs, trivia nights and children’s story times coming soon.

2. Con Huevos | Trussville

Great news, Trussville! Con Huevos Restaurant is officially open for business in the Entertainment District. Enjoy Mexican cuisine in a vibrant space with upbeat decor. Open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:30AM-3:30PM, the restaurant serves to the breakfast/lunch crowd.

3. Los Arcos | Helena

According to the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ) a new restaurant, Los Arcos Mexican Restaurant, will open in the former space of San Antonio Grill in the Helena community. The BJJ reported the new restaurant will open in the coming months and has more than 10 locations in Alabama, including several in the Birmingham metro area.

4. Indigo Cafe and Bar | Montevallo

Indigo Cafe and Bar, a new culinary destination, is getting ready to open on Montevallo’s Main Street. The owners hope to create a warm and inviting atmosphere along with top-notch dishes.

5. Popbar | Hoover

Popbar, known for its customizable and delicious gelato, sorbet, and yogurt pops, has teamed up with Baba Java Coffee, a popular coffee spot in Hoover, to open a store together. Popbar and Baba Java share share the same core values, which is why the two are a dynamic duo, according to Popbar founder Reuben BenJehuda.

6. Publix | Cahaba Crossing

On Wednesday, November 1, you’ll be able to shop at Irondale’s new Publix. This location is at Cahaba Crossing, a newly built retail development located at the intersection of Grants Mill Road and Old Leeds Road in Irondale.

7. Lloyd’s Restaurant | Sylacauga

In a recent Facebook post, Lloyd’s Restaurant announced that it would be closing its Sylacauga location permanently on October 29. Don’t worry though, the restaurant has revealed its plans to open a new Birmingham location coming late 2024.

8. Bitty & Beau’s Coffee | Homewood

Bitty & Beau’s Coffee—a coffee shop dedicated to employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—is getting ready to open their new space in Homewood at the former Valley Cleaners site. The shop has a gorgeous outdoor patio and is two stories, giving space for people to study and read.
