Riverchase Galleria will become a mixed-use development with a healthcare facility
Reading time: 3 minutes
Hoover, a big change is coming your way. The city announced redevelopment plans to turn Riverchase Galleria into a mixed-use space, including a healthcare facility. Keep reading for all the details.
Hoover announced a big plan
According to the Birmingham Business Journal, the Riverchase Galleria and Patton Creek Shopping Center are both set for redevelopment, which is part of a six-year development plan for the City of Hoover. Overall, the goal is to make it easy for shoppers by including different businesses in one spot, including:
- Food
- Residential dwellings
- Retail
This redevelopment plan will also help bring businesses to empty spaces within these shopping centers.
What’s happening at the Riverchase Galleria?
Shopping at Riverchase Galleria is about to become healthy. As part of this plan, the city hopes to open a new healthcare facility in the mall. The whole idea behind this is to use empty space in the mall with the hopes of the healthcare facility not leaving.
“We wanted an industry that, frankly, is not going away. Healthcare, too, is changing. You’re seeing more pushouts for surgical centers instead of hospitals. The focus on healthcare facilities is not a new trend in the commercial real estate industry, but it is one that can help malls navigate the marketplace post COVID-19.
You’re seeing stores go out of business and you’re seeing stores come in. I think it’s important to keep reimagining, keep generating opportunities for our mall.”
Frank Brocato, Mayor, City of Hoover, as quoted in the BBJ
What’s happening at Patton Creek?
No set plans have been announced for the development in Patton Creek. We do know that the City of Hoover is looking to create more mixed-use space at this shopping center as well, so we can be on the lookout for a variety of businesses and potential residential develeopment.
When will this development happen?
There’s no official timeline yet. However, Hoover residents can expect announcements coming their way soon from their city leaders.
“Over the last 18 months, we’ve had an opportunity to talk with the ownership group and the advantage there is that it’s one ownership. We’ve cast a vision with them that would recreate Patton Creek in a way that would incorporate living, residential, commercial and entertainment. We’re working with them on imagining how that would look. We’re in the early stages, but we’re making some really good bargains.”
Frank Brocato, Mayor, City of Hoover, as quoted in the BBJ
