Red Rock Realty Group announced on July 14 that the first two tenants that will heading up the redevelopment of Edgewood’s main street are Otey’s Tavern and Frothy Monkey.

The two new businesses will be occupying the building on the west side of the strip. This development was built in the 1950’s and had previously been home to a variety of businesses such as a grocery store, specialty markets and home furnishings.

Otey’s will take the corner while Frothy Monkey takes the East end of the space—next to Sam’s Deli. Red Rock Realty purchased this space after the closing of Homewood Antiques in February 2022. They announced their closing in December 2021.

As the owners of Homewood Antiques banded together to create Antiques on Linden, Red Rock Realty Group was crafting major plans to bring new, exciting concepts to Edgewood.

Why Edgewood is perfect for these two businesses

The owners of both Otey’s Tavern and Frothy Monkey are overjoyed to be moving into the neighborhood, as they believe that they’ll be able to serve the Homewood community well and compliment each other.

We are also happy to report that the original Otey’s will be staying in Crestline Village as the Edgewood location serves as a closer location for the Homewood community.

Restaurant veterans, Will Haver and Chef Rodney Davis, have called Crestline their home for 30 years, and the expansion was a well thought out decision.

“We thought long and hard about this—Otey’s has been such a cornerstone of the Mountain Brook and Crestline community for over thirty years. But this opportunity was just too good a match to pass up. We love the Edgewood neighborhood, and the two areas are so similar, that this was just the perfect fit. Couldn’t be more excited.”

Although a Nashville native, Jen Sheets, co-owner of Frothy Monkey has heard great things about the walkability and friendly environment of Homewood, and knew that Edgewood would be the perfect landing spot for Birmingham’s second Frothy Monkey location.

“Whenever we mention the Birmingham area to anyone local they have told us that Homewood would be the ideal place for a Frothy Monkey, and we can’t agree more. The family-oriented atmosphere and walkability in the Edgewood neighborhood make this the perfect spot for coffee on the go, brunch, an after-school cookie or casual date night.”

Now that you’ve heard the news, the next question we expect is: “when will construction begin?”—and for that, we have an answer.

Construction is slated to begin late July, due to the major changes coming from the storefronts facing Oxmoor Road. The project will be led by Shelby General Contractors and Tyler G. Price Architecture.

“We are thrilled for these two great operators to be soon call Edgewood home. As an Edgewood resident, these new options will keep my family walking down to the strip morning and evening.”

-Jack Little, Principal at Red Rock and Managing Partner of Edgewood Corner, LLC

Otey’s Tavern and Frothy Monkey are set to join existing businesses like Taco Mama, Saw’s BBQ, Sam’s Deli, Dreamcakes, Edgewood Creamery, Homewood Pharmacy and more.

Little added that the project has one additional 3,000 square foot space is available in the redevelopment. Know someone who would want to be neighbors? Contact Red Rock Realty today.
