Elysian Gardens is a stunning new project. (Dessa Colburn)

We’re excited to see the winner of The Big Pitch award, Elysian Gardens open this season. Don’t miss this new whimsical metal art park in Avondale’s entertainment district. Read more to find out what’s in store for this park.

The inspiration

The garden is a project of nationally recognized metal sculptor, William Colburn. While traveling across the US, Colburn was inspired by the way art shows connect people. Wanting to share and celebrate the Birmingham community, Colburn has created the park to promote creativity and joy.

Although there hasn’t been an official opening date, the location is secured and art is being created! In the next few weeks, keep an eye out for the gardens, which will be near Sozo Trading Co. off 40th street.

FUN FACT: In 2019, Colburn became a finalist for The Big Pitch Award and WON. This means they get technical assistance, exposure and cash. Cha-Ching!

So, what can you expect? Elysian Gardens will have a permanent art gallery of metal sculptures, exciting classes and live music. In the future, they hope to open a restaurant—or two—with someone who shares the park’s vision.

Not only is it a sculpture park, but an event center. Since it’s located in the heart of Avondale, you’ll find all sorts of fun with friends or family. With a full bar, music, theatre, workshops and art exhibits, you’ll never be bored.

Wanna know the best part? It’s pet-friendly! So don’t miss this opportunity to drink local beer, listen to live music and enjoy works of art.
