Happy 2021, Birmingham. A new year calls for a fresh list of openings and there are a lot of developments to keep on your radar, including Cook Out’s second location, downtown’s new wine bar, O’Henry’s Coffee’s newest shop and more.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve been looking forward to the opening of the Downtown/Southside Cook Out location since we first heard about it back in December 2019. What is sure to be a hit among students and those seeking a quick, affordable bite is right around the corner on Wednesday, January 6th.

We recently interviewed the location’s general manager and got the inside scoop.

  • Location: 2411 3rd Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233

2. O’Henry’s in Mt. Laurel

Let’s face it. Sometimes coffee is what will really get you through the day. According to the Shelby County Reporter, owner of O’Henry’s Coffee, Blake Stevens, saw there was a demand along US HWY 280 for his delivery services and decided to open a store in Mt. Laurel by Spring 2021.

The coffee shop’s new location will offer the same menu items, cozy atmosphere and even feature a “bean wall” that’ll showcase roasted coffee beans from different countries.

3. Aviné

In October, we were excited to learn that Downtown Birmingham was getting a new wine bar. Well, they’re finally open. Whether you’re ending the week with friends or looking for a mid-week wind-down, you’ll now have a new spot to check out called Aviné.

Along with an impressive array of wines, you can enjoy an item from their menu or a charcuterie board. Aviné is open everyday from Noon-Midnight.

4. Imperio Steakhouse

Back in October, we reported that Trussville will be home to a new restaurant called Imperio Steakhouse & Grill. Now it’s finally time for their grand opening on Tuesday, January 5th. Visit them for drinks and food specials starting at 11AM.

The inside looks like something straight from your mythology textbook, but wait until you check out their menu that offers steaks, burgers, oysters, wings and more.

5. Jack n’ Jill + Sike Shoes

Two Homewood staples are moving after 66 years. According to WBRC, Jack n’ Jill Shop and Sikes Shoes are relocating to a new building this spring. The two children’s apparel stores have a loyal fan base so they’re not closing up shop completely. Instead, via an announcement on Facebook, they will have a temporary location in Downtown Homewood by January 11 until they’re ready to move into a brand new shop by Spring 2021.

6. French & Towers Salon

New year, new you? I suggest changing up your hairstyle. Even if it’s just a simple trim, French & Towers Salon will be able to give you that revamp starting January 5th. The new salon will be opening their doors at the former Wheelhouse Salon location in Homewood.

The salon’s stylists have years of experience and are crushing the latest trends. You can check out their latest work on Instagram and Facebook.

One thing I’ve learned over the past few years is that Birmingham is home to an avid disc golf community. I played it once and I kind of see the appeal. If you’re head over heels for the sport, a one-stop-shop for equipment, apparel and accessories just opened on New Years Day.

Back in February 2020, we reported about the latest happenings for Campus No. 124 in Pelham. Fast forward to 2021 and we now know the first official tenant. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Corefit is taking the place of the former gym space at the repurposed elementary school.

The gym opened its doors right after Christmas with state-of-the-art equipment, bootcamp, boxing and even a lounge for the kiddos.
