Looking to view local art? Check out Canary Gallery in downtown Birmingham
Reading time: 3 minutes
If there’s one thing that makes Birmingham special, it’s the community’s passion for local art. Whether it’s new murals popping up all over town or community events like Bham Art Crawl, there is always somewhere to stroll around and view art. We took a visit to Canary Gallery in downtown Birmingham, which recently opened back up with new hours, to learn more about the unique space.
Meet Libby Pantazis
Canary Gallery is owned and operated by Libby Pantazis. After retiring from her career as a lawyer, Libby set out to craft a one-of-a-kind art gallery in downtown Birmingham. In 2016, she opened Canary Gallery at 2201 2nd Avenue North.
Canary Gallery operates by a simple motto: good art for good people. Whether you’re looking to view art from over 20 unique artists while sipping on a glass of wine, take an art class or host a private event, the gallery has something for everyone.
The Art & The Artists
Canary Gallery is currently home to works from 23 different artists, both local and from around the world. Inside the gallery, you can find almost any style of art. For example, Billy Solitario prefers to paint en plein air, glimpses at landscapes and clouds. Meanwhile, Tatiana Kaupp introduces colorful interpretations of celebrations and landscapes, inspired by her time with folk artists in Mexico.
