[PHOTOS] A look at 15+ of the newest murals around Birmingham

If you drive through Birmingham one thing is certain—the streets are decorated with pieces of art you may not even notice. Here are some of the most recent murals we’ve seen around town lately, including a 100-foot long piece in Selma. Which ones are your favorites?

1. Horse Pens 40 Revamp

There’s a special story behind this billboard. Horse Pens 40 is a historic nature park with beautiful rock formations. Native Americans once lived here in the natural rock shelters and the park is home to ancient burial grounds of early inhabitants of the area.

While there, you’ll discover a sign that says “Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but pictures. Kill nothing but time.”

The Schultz family owns the property and invites you to come enjoy the natural beauty of Horse Pens 40. To hear more about the iconic sign’s revamp, here’s a short video.

2. “Coming Together” in Selma

Birmingham artist Trés Taylor invited the community of Selma to join him in creating a 100-foot mural. Think of it as a giant coloring book. The mural is called “Coming Together” and it was completed thanks to many helping hands, including the local police department, sheriff’s office, the 100 Black Men of Selma chapter and others within the Selma community.
