Ahh, the Post-Holiday Clean Up

Gift cards are one of the most common gifts during the holidays. They’re great in theory, but it’s almost impossible to spend every bit of them. I have an entire drawer in my desk where half-spent gift cards go to die. It’s quite a sad sight, really.

Instead of letting that money go to waste, you can trade it in for money. in. your. pocket. Who doesn’t love that?

All you have to do is download the Prepaid2Cash app. That’s about as simple as it gets, people!

The best news about this whole deal? (Ok, maybe second-best. Extra money always takes the cake.)

You can support a Birmingham company while you get money. Prepaid2Cash is a tech startup that moved from Silicon Valley to Birmingham following an investment from the Alabama Futures Fund.

Peter Vogt, founder and CEO of Prepaid2Cash, was quite impressed with our Magic City when he first visited. He’s a self-proclaimed fan of the community—and of the brisket at Jim ‘N Nick’s.

Since the move, the company has been plugging into the Birmingham tech scene, hiring local employees and developing new ways to keep pushing the limits of tech innovation.

Ok, How Does it Work?

We’re glad you asked. First things first: download the app and set up your account. This took me less than five minutes. After that, you can get into the fun part:

Step 1: Scan

Use your phone’s camera to scan your gift card in seconds. You can use pretty much any prepaid card with more than $20 on it—which is great because I have some truly out-of-left-field gift cards sitting in my desk drawer.

Step 2: Transfer

Set up the money from your gift card to be deposited directly into your bank account in as little as 24 hours.

There has to be a catch, right? Nope. Prepaid2Cash is totally up-front about their fees. It’s also the lowest cost and fastest delivery option out there. Here are the details:

  • If you want the money in your account by the next business day, you’ll see a 7.5% processing fee + $1.50 for delivery
  • If you’re not in any hurry, you can wait 4-5 business days to get a 5.0% processing fee + $1.50 for delivery

Step 3: Recieve

Now for the best part. Check your bank account after your selected transfer time and voila! You’ve officially traded your prepaid cards for cash.
