Learn and Build Relationships

Encompass Health interns have the opportunity to experience the company culture, contribute to company success and participate in fun intern events. If you’re looking to see what it is like first-hand to work at a large organization with a national footprint, you will experience that with Encompass Health! It is a great opportunity to gain knowledge while also fostering relationships with mentors and peers.

“Before my internship, I had no idea what to expect from working in a corporate office. As an intern, I worked on a real project that ended up being used by all of the pharmacists in Encompass Health hospitals. I was able to collaborate with people who had been working in technology for 20+ years, as well as the clinicians working directly with patients. The biggest takeaway from my internship was learning what it means to work in an environment where everyone gets to contribute to improving the lives of our patients.”

In order for interns to network with each other and build lasting relationships, the internship program at Encompass Health includes several after-hours events around the city.

Events May Include:

  • A night out with the Birmingham Barons
  • A day at Topgolf
  • Lunch outings
  • A non-mandatory service day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity
  • A farewell dinner

“Although professional development is the most obvious benefit of an internship, an Encompass Health internship is unique in that they ensure that interns still get to enjoy some of their summer. We were taken on numerous outings throughout. Including rock climbing!”

Unique Interactions With Leadership

Although Encompass Health is a large organization, senior leadership recognizes the value that the internship program brings to the company. In order to gain a better understanding of company operations, interns have a chance to sit down and hear from company CEO, Mark Tarr, who talks about the company’s vision and gives interns a chance to ask questions.

“My mentor helped me a lot in every aspect be it the work I did during my internship or choosing my career path he would always help and try and engage with me whenever he used to get time which has continued to date.”

Kaushik Vedalaveni, Security Analyst and previous intern

There is also an opportunity to tour a local Encompass Health hospital and hear from the hospital leadership about operations. This access to leadership is a great way to gain first-hand insight into what goes on at Encompass Health!

Need More? Here’s what else the former interns had to say:

“My experience as an intern allowed me to ‘hit the ground running’ when I started working as a full-time employee. I already knew the technology and the people I would be working with, so it was like coming back home. I was able to build on what I had learned as an intern and quickly contribute to my team’s success. This made my experience as a ‘new-hire’ positive and enjoyable.”

Allison Busby, BI/Data Warehousing Analyst and previous intern

“The experiences I gained during my time as an intern were invaluable for my career development. Not only was I given the opportunity to explore the inner workings of Encompass Health, but also gained valuable connections with those in my department and the other interns. These connections have been incredibly useful to me as I work on interdepartmental projects in my current full-time position.”
