Check out 6 new restaurants and bars you have to try in Birmingham
Reading time: 5 minutes
We all know Birmingham’s food scene has been exploding lately with all the James Beard awards we’ve won. Check out 6 of the newest restaurants and bars you may not have heard opened recently.
Marty’s GM in Irondale
We’re pretty stoked that the owners over at Marty’s PM in Five Points decided Birmingham needed another burger, wings and live music bar.
Marty’s GM just opened in Irondale a few weeks ago and they’re already selling out.
Their reviews will tell you why they sold out of most of their menu on their third day open. Customers rave about everything from the Maui burger to their specialty wings and egg rolls.
Plus they’ve gotten massive accolades for their quick and friendly service and fun atmosphere.
Normally I’d say not to believe everything you hear on the internet, but in the case of Marty’s GM I say believe away.
Check out their menu below and try it out asap.
The Icehouse Texas BBQ in Mountain Brook
Icehouse is serving up some of Texas’s best BBQ right on our own Culver Road.
The owner of Avo & Dram, another Mountain Brook staple, has opened this glorious barbecue restaurant and it’s rumored it has some of the best brisket and bologna sandwiches in the ‘ham.
They even have brunch. Honestly, what’s not to like? Correct answer: nothing.
See their full menu here.
We’re pretty excited to give this one a try. Have you been already? Let us know what you think!
Mom’s Basement in Avondale
Turns out y’all were pretty stoked about Mom’s Basement opening because we were blown away by all the love you gave them.
If you didn’t hear, this vintage dive bar just opened in Avondale and serves up canned wine and beer. You have to try it. See the inside here.
Whistling Table in Forest Park
Forest Park is getting some of the food love too. Mac Russel, the owner of Shindig’s food truck, is finally getting to live his dream of opening this cool brick and mortar location.
The menu will include the food truck favorites like their steamed pork buns, but will expand to offer seasonal salads and dare we say it? Even a fresh juice bar.
Get yourselves ready for this farm-to-table greatness and read all the details here. The first of June can’t come fast enough.
Libertines Pizza Co. in Five Points South
NBD but a new pizza company is setting up shop in the old Cosmo’s Pizza in Five Points.
We were so bummed when Rocky’s pizza closed but it looks like Libertines Pizza Co. is coming in to save the day.
Ben Vaughn opened Root to Tail last year in Mountain Brook and plans on opening Libertines the first week in September. Even better than the delicious pizzas he plans to serve is how he sources his ingredients.
Vaugn partners with REV Birmingham’s Urban Food project and local farms within 100 miles of Birmingham to serve up fresh local ingredients that benefit Birmingham.
Vaughn also plans to partner with lots of delivery services to serve Birmingham, and especially the starving UAB students. BlazerBucks payment option TBD. Hopefully more than half of the restaurant’s orders will be deliveries.
Get ready for some amazing pizza delivered to the comfort of your couch.
The Essential on Morris Avenue
One of Birmingham’s favorite brunch spots Feast & Forest is moving to a new location and opening under the name The Essential.
Don’t be sad, a bright future is ahead thanks to the teamwork of Kristin Farmer Hall and Victor King. This just means you’ll have more space to devour their even bigger and better menu options.
And did we mention they’re moving to the beautiful Morris Avenue? We’re excited to see this historic street becoming Birmingham’s Retail Row.
Follow them on the ‘gram to know exactly when they will open in the next few weeks.
