10 reasons every post-grad should move to Birmingham

Here’s a picture of me walking across a stage, shaking hands with my university’s President (hey Dr. Bennett), and being handed the most expensive piece of paper I’ll ever hold. I had no idea what I was doing with my life starting the next morning. Can you see the joy and fear mixing in my eyes?

I graduated from college in May 2019. Starting approximately June 1, 2018, I was asked this question over, and over, and over again. You know the one: “So, what’s next?” Now, this was certainly well-intended and asked out of genuine curiosity. However, for a senior in college with no clue what they’re doing for spring break, much less with the rest of their lives, it can be a bit panic-inducing. College students, post-grads: have no fear! Did we forget about libraries? Why you should be taking advantage + where to find public libraries in Birmingham

Some of my favorite summertime memories as a child involved going to the library. During those long, hot summer days (before Netflix came around), my older sister and I would run out of entertainment fairly quickly. So, once a week, we would grab our library cards, hop in my mom’s car, and ride down to our local public library. The excitement of scanning the shelves, finding a new novel or maybe the next book in a series I’d been burning through- nothing could compare. I feel confident that I am not alone in that memory. Which begs the question, Birmingham- why have so many of us forgotten about libraries?

Residential Ventures, a boutique development firm based in Denver, CO purchased $2.39M of downtown Birmingham property late last year. This week, plans were released for their property at 2216/2218 First Ave. N. to undergo a renovation expected to reach close to $4M.
