4 new businesses + 1 closure in Birmingham this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.
From fresh Italian to a new indoor play center, here are three businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one local business we’ll miss.

1. Diggin’ Depot Play Center | Hoover
Who doesn’t love playing in a sandbox? Introducing Diggin’ Depot Play Cafe, a part creative sandbox for kids!
After months of construction—including constructing what might be the largest sandbox in Alabama at 600 square-feet with 40 tons of sand from the Bahamas—the space opened near the Galleria in Hoover.
The Diggin’ Depot also offers workspace desks and chairs so a parent can knock out any work they need to get done while their kids play, plus Baba Java Coffee to recharge.

2. Pazzo | Vestavia Hills
A new authentic Italian restaurant called Pazzo Italian has opened in Vestavia Hills. Located behind the water fountain at the former Napoli Pizza site, the new space started serving the public the week of August 19.
Vestavia’s newest sit-down restaurant, Pazzo offers a wide range of Italian delicacies including rigatoni bolognese, chicken piccata, gnocchi, gelato flights and much more.

3. The Veiled Lady | Downtown Birmingham
A new boutique tattoo and body art shop has opened on Birmingham’s bustling 20th Street S next to Forstall Arts and Zaza! The new shop is a “sister” of Unhallowed Gallery, a popular piercing and tattoo studio just around the corner.
Artists include Lana Ashlyn, Caroline Gray and Victoria Jordan with more to come.

5. University Tacos | Downtown Birmingham
Two years after it opened, University Tacos is closing its 5th Avenue location. According to a University Tacos employee, the restaurant’s final day in operation will be Friday, August 28. Luckily, the restaurant’s original location at 2009 University Boulevard isn’t going anywhere.
