Trussville veterans memorial remembers fallen heroes

Mayor Short passionately spoke about the importance of the moment and the memorial which is located at: 55 Parkway Drive, across from the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church off Gadsden Highway.

β€œI am proud that Trussville is home to this sacred place of remembrance. This monument is more than concrete pillars and names. It is a promise. A promise that we will remember. A promise that the lives represented here will not be reduced to history books or ceremonies once a year, but will remain a part of the character and conscience of this community.”

The Alabama Fallen Warriors Monument honors the lives of nearly 300 Alabamians who have been killed during the war on terror since 9/11.

Roy Williams, brother of Major Williams and a former Birmingham journalist turned public relations specialist, raised nearly $12,000 over the past two years to fund the bust remembering his brother.

β€œI hope today will be a day in which everyone will remember that the freedom so many of us take for granted was bought with a price of blood, sweat, and tears of people like my brother Army Major Dwayne Williams.”
