Hoover is the 6th Best Place to Live in the U.S., according to an annual national survey published by U.S. News and World Report today.
Known for releasing detailed national rankings on colleges, hospitals and communities, U.S. News based the 2026-2027 Best Places to Live rankings on:
- Affordability
- Desirability
- Job market
- Quality of life
Number of positive Birmingham + Hoover quality of life rankings

The latest Hoover ranking comes on the heels of a number of positive quality of life national surveys and rankings featuring the Birmingham metro area.
Recent stories include:
- Birmingham named 6th best place to live in U.S.
- Major foodie site names Birmingham one of the best places to eat in the world
- Birmingham ranks 2nd nationally for first-time home buyers in 2026

Alabama’s top 10 best places to live

Even though,Hoover was the only city in the state of Alabama that cracked U.S. New’s top 40 list, other Alabama cities came close.
Daphne was ranked the second best city in Alabama and 42nd nationally. North Alabama’s Decatur is the third best community to live in the state and the 60th nationally.
Rounding out the U.S. News top Alabama cities list are:
- Dothan
- Huntsville
- Montgomery
- Florence
- Auburn
- Mobile
- Anniston
