It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.

From a brand new Italian spot in Lane Parke to an exciting wine bar coming to Ross Bridge, here are seven businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two businesses that are saying farewell.

Now Open

1. Locando Brasato | Lane Parke

The duo behind one of Birmingham’s favorite Italian restaurants have teamed up to bring a taste of authentic Italian cuisine to Mountain Brook. Duaine Clements and Marco Butturini, the co-owners of downtown Birmingham’s Lé Fresca, have officially opened Locanda Brasato in the former Post Office Pies space in Lane Parke.

At Locanda Brasato, it’s all about quality ingredients, technique and the process—making stocks, kneading dough and simmering sauces the old-fashioned way. On the menu, guests will find a tight selection of antipasti (appetizers), pizza, primi (pasta), secondi (mains) and dolci (desserts).

2. Pickle & Pour | Crestwood

Think the Birmingham area has had its pickleball fill? Guess again! Pickle & Pour in Crestwood is the latest pickleball concept to open its doors, and it comes with some clever additions.

Right now, Pickle & Pour features seven courts for you to play, practice and enjoy with friends. But there’s more to come in the next few months: a restaurant and bar, lounge area and a pro shop.

3. Bayt Al-Qahwah | Greensprings

A new coffee shop is open now, offering a wide variety of both traditional coffee drinks and teas to some that many patrons may be unfamiliar with.

Bayt Al-Qahwah is a Yemini coffee shop offering up both traditional coffees in addition to some Yemen-inspired drinks, including various herb teas and cardamom-flavored coffees.

The new spot is also offering something that we don’t have much of in other Birmingham-area coffee shops: extended hours, allowing remote workers with odd hours, late-night studying or flexible social meetups.

Coming Soon

4. Baskin-Robbins | Inverness Corners

A new Baskin-Robbins location is coming soon to Inverness Corners on Valleydale, adding another sweet treat option for anyone passing through the busy U.S. Highway 280 corridor.

Known for its rotating lineup of 31 flavors, the shop offers everything from classic favorites to seasonal specials.

5. Von’s Wine & Social | Ross Bridge

Big news for wine lovers! A craft beer and specialty wine bar is coming to Ross Bridge in Hoover. Aiming for a mid-February opening, Von’s Ross Bridge will be “part wine bar, part bottle shop, all good times.”

Founded by Brian and Jordan Von Hagel, Von’s plans to host a wine shop and a bar all rolled into one. Think: wine, beer, snacks, board games and good conversation.

6. Raising Cane’s | Highway 280

The opening date for the first Raising Cane’s restaurant in Birmingham is set: the chicken joint with a cult-like following is gearing up for a March 10 opening. Founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this is the chain’s third location in Alabama. The other two are in Tuscaloosa and Mobile.

7. Magnolia Soap & Bath Company | Vestavia City Center

Magnolia Soap & Bath Company, a Mississippi-based chain with more than 40 locations, is setting up shop in the Vestavia City Center.

The franchise started in a founder Magen Bynum’s kitchen in Mississippi back in 2016. Her daughter had sensitive skin, and Bynum set out to make “safe, effective and irresistibly indulgent products you can trust,” according to the brand’s website.

8. YMCA | Alabaster

Alabaster’s YMCA will close at the end of May.

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham announced the closure today, stating the current facility “faces major maintenance and repair needs that exceed our financial capacity.”

Located at 117 Plaza Circle, the Alabaster YMCA branch was established nearly 40 years ago. In the early 2010s, the facility experienced significant growth led by the addition of a six-lane indoor pool.

9. Tallulah Brewing | Jasper

Jasper’s Tallulah Brewing is closing after eight years in business.

The popular brewery made the announcement on Wednesday evening via a post on Facebook:

“What started as a dream turned into something so much bigger: a place where friends met, families gathered, and memories were made over a pint. We’re beyond grateful to every person who walked through our doors, brought their dogs, celebrated their birthdays, played trivia or just stopped by after a long day.”
