Carver Jones Market opens in Birmingham’s Titusville Community
Reading time: 2 minutes

The much-anticipated Carver Jones Market opened today at the Heritage Park Townes Center in Birmingham’s Titusville Community.
The new 10,000 square-foot grocery store is located at 873 Dennison Avenue Southwest.
The development was made possible thanks to the approval of an $850,000 incentive package approved by the City Council in December 2025.
The new store takes the place of the former Save A Lot store that closed in 2023.
Carver Jones Market – more than a grocery store

Birmingham City Councilor Crystal Smitherman championed and worked closely with the Woodfin Administration to make the grocery store a reality. In her comments before the opening she told the crowd, Carver Jones Market is more than a grocery store.
“This is not just about providing you with fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s about workforce development. Carver Jones has committed to making sure that our kids have jobs here.”
Crystal Smitherman, Birmingham City Councilor, District 6
In addition to fresh fruits, vegetables and meats, the grocery store will also include:
- Citizen’s Express Pharmacy
- Coffee shop
- Workforce training center
- Community conference room space for meetings up to 20 people
Carver Jones Market role within the community

James Harris, the owner of Carver Jones Market, summed up the grocery store’s important role within the community.
“Food, housing, transportation, those become the anchor for a community to grow. We want to be part of that food part. We’re going to do our part to help provide fresh, nutritious food for the people in the community. That’s our goal.”
