It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.

From a new boba shop in the busy Parkside district to a beloved local bakery with a new home in Downtown Birmingham, here are five new openings you need to know about. 

Plus, find out which Birmingham-area grocery store is shutting its doors.

Now Open

1. Tay’s Tea | Railroad Park

2025 has welcomed an exciting new class of small businesses to Birmingham’s Parkside district, including its newest addition: Tay’s Tea, a grab-and-go boba shop founded by Yanisa and James Odom.

If their name sounds familiar, you might have seen Tay’s Tea at local brewery pop-ups or markets like Pepper Place. Thanks to a grant through Birmingham Open for Business, the Odoms were able to start their own brick-and-mortar business.

2. Bandit Pâtisserie | 1st Ave N

Over the weekend, Bandit Patisserie opened its new location on 1st Ave N. The café now offers a much larger retail and production space for guests to enjoy their delicious pastries and coffee.

Plus, if you’re a longtime fan, Bandit is bringing back some old menu favorites like the egg frittata and daily sandwich.

3. Wendy’s | Hueytown

Wendy’s just announced the grand opening of a new location in Hueytown.

The fast food chain is on a roll in the Magic City—in addition to the Hueytown location, the popular fast food chain also opened two other locations in Birmingham and Gardendale in just three months.

4. Rural King | Jasper

Rural King, a family-owned farming and outdoors retailer, recently opened a new store in Jasper.

Whether you’re shopping for livestock supplies, pet care essentials, apparel or tools, Rural King offers a variety of products and popular brands like Carhartt, Blackstone and Ariat.

5. 7 Brew Coffee | Alabaster

Alabaster is getting its very own 7 Brew Coffee later this year. According to a Facebook post by the City of Alabaster, the café will be located next to Taco Bell on Highway 119.

Over the last year, several 7 Brew Coffee locations have popped up around The Magic City, including Montclair Road and Trussville. The chain now has 17 Alabama locations, with Alabaster to become the 18th.

6. Winn Dixie | Cahaba Heights

The Winn Dixie in Cahaba Heights will be closing its doors in the coming months.

In a statement given to Bham Now from Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, the store located at 3925 Crosshaven, was listed as one of the four locations statewide that will be shuttered between late April and mid-May.

The other three locations are in Mobile and Phenix City.

With the closing of the Cahaba Heights location, only four Winn Dixie locations remain open in the  Birmingham-Metro area. They are:
