With so many businesses launching in 2025, Birmingham is already off to a thriving start this year.

From a new antique shop open in Vestavia Hills to a coffee shop coming soon to Railroad Park, here’s what’s new and coming soon around the Birmingham area and beyond.

1. Piddlin Art & Antiques | Vestavia Hills

Located off Highway 31 on Kentucky Ave, Piddlin Art & Antiques is now open in Vestavia Hills.

The store has a variety of antique furniture, art and handmade goods created by local makers. In addition to its wide selection of locally-made goods, the store plans to offer art classes like watercolor and pottery.

2. Wasabi Sushi Bar & Grill | Alabaster

Get your chopsticks readyโ€”Wasabi Japanese Sushi & Bar on Colonial Dr. in Alabaster is officially open for business.

Whether youโ€™re in the mood for a sushi roll, a warm bowl of udon, or a sizzling hibachi plate, this new spot has something for everyone.

3. Sparrow Salon | East Avondale

A new salon is now open in East Avondale!

Sparrow Salonโ€”a community salon owned by stylist Theo Pettway and his wifeโ€”recently opened in the former Ore Mercantile space at the Avondale Mills Shopping Center.

The salon’s tagline is โ€˜the art of self-care’, aiming to give clients the tools to feel more confident and comfortable.

4. Scarlet Raven Gaming | Trussville

A brand-new spot for gamers has opened its doors in Trussville.

Scarlet Raven Gaming is the ultimate destination for board and tabletop gaming enthusiasts, with space for gaming, birthday parties and more.

5. The Bark Park | Irondale

The Bark Parkโ€”a brand-new pet care company owned by Emondre Johnsonโ€”is opening on Montevallo Road on February 22.

Specializing in doggy daycare, overnight stays, professional pet photography and more, The Bark Park is the โ€œall-in-oneโ€ facility you and your four-legged friends need.

6. Whammy Coffee | Railroad Park

Last month, Bham Now reported that East Pole Coffee Co., a beloved Railroad Park favorite closed its doors. While weโ€™re sad to see them go, a new coffee shop is taking its place: Whammy Coffee.

Owned by Samford alumni Mitch and Maddie McEver, Whammy first started out doing business at pop-ups around Birmingham like Pepper Place and Ore Mercantile. 

Now, Whammy is opening its very first location in the thriving The Denham Building this summer.

7. New Day Car Wash | Trussville

Get ready to have the cleanest car in town! New Day Car Wash is kicking off its grand opening in Trussville this weekend. From February 20-23, try their services out during โ€œFree Wash Weekend.”

8. Nothing Bundt Cakes | Fultondale

According to a recent Facebook post, popular bakery Nothing Bundt Cakes is opening a new location in Fultondale. 

The new store will be located at the Promenade Fultondale, in the suite between Bath & Body Works and Sally Beauty.

9. Foxhound Bee Company | Irondale

Foxhound Bee Company, the first of its kind beekeeping retail and education destination in Alabama, plans to break ground on a new 5,000-square-foot Beekeeping and Pollinator Education Center in Irondale this month.

The new facility is designed to serve as both a retail shop for beekeepers and an educational space where beekeepers and the community can explore the wonders of honey bees and pollinators.

10. Oak Mountain Brewing | Pelham

Oak Mountain Brewing Company announced on social media that it has closed indefinitely.

The popular taproom, situated at the intersection of Hwy 119 and Hwy 31 in Pelham, first opened in January 2021. According to itsย Yelp page, the brewery plans to reopen on April 1, 2025.
