Your Birmingham bucket list should absolutely include a tasty local cocktail. (Nathan Watson / Bham Now)

Although the hot Alabama weather isn’t showing signs of stopping yet, summer will be cooling down into fall before you know it.

We asked our audience: what’s one thing you want to check off your end-of-summer bucket list before the seasons change?

Read on for the top responses, plus a few of our own.

1. Catch a Barons game

Don’t miss the Birmingham Barons’ last two weeks of the season. (Bham Now)

What screams summer louder than enjoying a stadium hot dog or funnel cake at the ball park?

If you haven’t been to a Barons game yet, there are only seven more home games at Regions Field this season. (That’s only one more Thirsty Thursday for those counting!)

2. Get tasty summer produce

If you haven’t had a ripe tomato sandwich this summer, are you even from the South?

As summer comes to a close, now is your last chance to enjoy the juiciest, ripest summer produce.

Make sure you stop by these Birmingham-area farmers markets for your summer delicacies, including:

  • Watermelon
  • Tomatoes
  • Corn
  • Peaches
  • Okra
  • Summer squash

It might be starting to cool off a little, and now is the perfect time to get out on the water and enjoy it.

Only a short drive from Birmingham lie several great spots to kayak, canoe, tube or just hang out by the water.

4. Visit a waterpark

Alabama Splash Adventure
Splash Adventure is always a must on my summer bucket list. (Jacob Blankenship / Bham Now)

If kayaking isn’t your vibe, Alabama also happens to be home to a handful of waterparks and splash pads:

  • Alabama Adventure + Splash Adventure Waterpark
  • Spring Valley Beach
  • WildWater Cullman
  • Pelham Splash Pad
  • + more

Make sure you squeeze in a visit before they close after Labor Day weekend.

If you’re looking to catch a big one before the season ends, there are plenty of fishing spots within two hours of Birmingham to explore, including Oak Mountain State Park and Lay Lake.

Make sure to catch yourself a tarpon before peak fishing season ends this September!
