The Whitby staycation in Birmingham
Staycation in Birmingham? Lucky you! (Jacob Blankenship / Bham Now)

Looking to plan a summer vacation, but don’t have time to hop on a plane or drive for hours? Luckily, Birmingham is full of great outdoor spots like Oak Mountain State Park, local pools and splash pads, plus great apartment communities that make a staycation feel like a dream.

One of these is The Whitby Birmingham, located near Greystone off Highway 280 and close to so many great spots. But within the community, there are instructor-led fitness classes, a beautiful saltwater pool and everything you need for a luxurious staycation. Here’s how we recommend filling your day.

If your staycation inspires you to take a real vacation, you’re in luck: If you move in right now, you can live 2 months rent-FREE and get entered for a chance to win a trip to Punta Cana!

Start your staycation with a little moving + grooving

Okay, okay…I know a lot of us don’t exactly think of a workout when we’re on vacation. But it’s a great way to start the day, and you’ll feel accomplished first thing in the morning—which is great, considering the rest of our staycation plans are all about rest.

At The Whitby’s Harbour Club, you can find treadmills, weights and technology that leads you through your own workout, no matter your goals.

Treat yourself to a spa day + soak up the sun

Staycation in Birmingham schedule: Spa, pool, repeat. (Bham Now)

Getting in a morning workout makes for the perfect excuse to treat yourself the rest of the day. What better way to do that than a spa outing?

UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s One Nineteen Spa on Highway 119 offers everything from full body massages and facials, to mani/pedis, waxing and more. The medically-trained team pairs a relaxing spa experience with their wellness expertise.

After that, block your afternoon off for some important business: A Whitby pool day.

Grab your current read, some sunglasses and a cold beverage and relax. There are plenty of chairs, tents and cabanas for your fun in the sun.

Order takeout from a Birmingham restaurant + outdoor dine

It doesn’t have to be fancy…order local takeout and enjoy the meal outdoors. (Bham Now, Whitby Birmingham)

Now that it’s dinnertime, maybe you opt for cooking your own meal. It’s your staycation! If making a favorite recipe or trying something new relaxes you, then go for it.

But for those of us who’d prefer to order in…there’s a delicious Thai place five minutes down the road from The Whitby. Yum Yai serves authentic Thai dishes like Hotpot, Pad Thai, Pad See You and more.

Order it to-go, bring it back and enjoy outdoor dining in Notting Hill, the beautiful greenspace in the middle of the community.

“Wine” down with a great view

After a workout, a spa day and an afternoon by the pool, it’s time to wind down.

The Whitby is conveniently about a five-minute drive from The Vintage Wine Shoppe—the cutest little spot in Cahaba Park Circle where you can browse hundreds of local, national and international wines.

Grab a bottle and head back to The Whitby to take in the views from their beautiful Highgrove View rooftop lounge.

Chat with friends or enjoy some quiet time before you do it all again the next day.

You can enjoy all of this and more when you live at The Whitby Birmingham! Did we mention that you can live 2 months rent-FREE + get entered for a chance to win a trip to Punta Cana? Learn more and apply today.
