Another day, another startup guide. Birmingham is full of amazing entrepreneurs and leaders making big waves in the local business game. Read on for three Birmingham startups you need to know.

1. Analytical Ai

Analytical Ai is an Artificial Intelligence technology company that develops innovative AI solutions in threat detection, healthcare and finance.

The team designs and integrates cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions to quickly identify threats to safety. They do this while retaining individual privacy in on-person screening, baggage screening and other screening modalities.

Recently, Analytical Ai has been working with the DHS SBIR Program in streamlining airport checkpoint screening for limited mobility passengers.

2. Moxi

(Moxi)
Creator of Moxi, Cori Fain-Forrest (Moxi)

DYK the average childcare center waitlist is 236 children long, and some families wait over two years for a spot? Led by a local working mom, Moxi tackles the country’s growing childcare crises.

Through a unique mobile app, parents can seamlessly book and pay for childcare through Moxi’s membership-based network of childcare centers that offer on-demand care.

Moxi partners with childcare centers such as facility-based daycares or privately owned and operated centers like churches.

Plus, parents aren’t locked into a single childcare center. They can pay for care as needed, be it a single day or a year at a time.

Cori Fain-Forrest and the rest of the Moxi team will be competing for $25K at Alabama Launchpad Cycle 1 this April.

3. Domestique Coffee

Domestique Michael Pocus

Domestique Coffee is a coffee, hospitality and lifestyle brand that has been ranked among the top 10 coffee roasters in the country.

Started by brothers Nathan and Michael Pocus in 2014, Domestique was founded on the idea of “easy access to high-quality coffee”.

You might recognize them from Satellite in Avondale, or Dawn Patrol in Homewood.

The team sources coffee beans from multiple countries to make sure they have the perfect bean for every roast. It’s no wonder why they’ve been named the “Best Coffee Shop in Alabama” by Food & Wine.

Fun fact: Domestique took home the $50K Seed Stage prize at Alabama Launchpad in 2023.
