7 new places coming soon to Birmingham + 1 farewell

Happy Monday, Birmingham. Check out these seven new businesses that are opening and a sneak peek of those that are coming soon. Plus—find out who is relocating and who is closing. Let’s get right into it.

1. Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar | Alabaster

Good news, Alabaster! Birmingham Metro’s third Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar is coming soon. Founded in Springfield, Missouri in 2006, Big Whiskey’s features signature items such as the famous Chicken Ranch Alfredo, The Honey Stung Burger, Boom Boom Shrimp Tacos and The Brunch Melt. True to its name, the restaurant has an extensive drink menu including 120+ whiskeys. 

2. Lickin’ Good Donuts | Pelham

If you’re looking for a sweet treat, stop by the new Lickin Good Donuts in Pelham for a morning pick-me-up. From kolaches and donuts to smoothies, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

3. GrindHouse | 3rd Avenue North

GrindHouse, LLC is opening a new location on Downtown Birmingham’s 3rd Avenue North.  The grand opening is set for Saturday, January 13. Get ready to celebrate with an awesome lineup of free events and amazing vendors.

4. Little Betty Steak Bar | Lane Parke

Mountain Brook officially welcomed Little Betty Steak Bar. Revival Restaurant Group, an Atlanta-based restaurant collective, owns the new steakhouse. Their website says Little Betty Steak Bar is “an elegant, first-rate steakhouse and bar with a lively environment beautifully built to make you feel at home.” Make sure to make a reservation.

5. Mama’ Nem Southern Kitchen | West Princeton

Chris Hollaman, founder and owner of Munchies on 5th, is closing the beloved bar and grill in Avondale to start a new restaurant, Mama’ Nem Southern Kitchen, near Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The new spot will have a Rickwood Field-inspired theme and serve classic Southern food—stay tuned for updates to come!

6. Umami | Trussville

Umami offers Asian-Inspired cuisine and sushi. The beloved Birmingham restaurant is opening its second location soon in Trussville. The menu was created with a goal to provide guests with a unique Asian-cuisine experience with carefully selected ingredients. The Pinche Arroz is a must-try.

7. The HQ BBQ & Hot Pot | Hoover

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, a BBQ and Hotpot is coming soon to Hoover. Get ready to enjoy “a unique, hands-on all-you-can-eat dining experience that merges traditional Japanese shabu shabu with Korean bbq flavors”, as described on their website.

Closing—The Pixel Room | Leeds

After 3.5 years of amazing selfies, The Pixel Room Birmingham has announced it will be closing its doors in January. Want to keep a piece of the museum? Props, decorations and more will be for sale, on January 12, 13 and 14. Check out what’s up for grabs via social.
