The Shift movie filming in Birmingham [PHOTOS]
Birmingham is the newest hot spot for film production and we are here for it. You might have heard the news that The Shift began its filming in The Magic City and if you haven’t, keep reading to catch up on all the details.
Here’s what we know:
The Shift, which is the first film produced by Angel Studios, began filming on January 30 and is taking place in various spots around Birmingham. Local photographer Jeff E. Newman—known for his explorations with Underground Birmingham—snapped some photos of the filming in progress.
Produced by Ken Carpenter, The Shift tells the story of Kevin Garner, who after a tense encounter with a mysterious stranger called “The Benefactor”, is banished to a parallel Earth where he fights to get back to the woman he loves.
According to Writer/Director Brock Heasley, the film seeks to show the audience that we can maintain hope in the midst of trials.
Where is it being filmed?
So far, The Shift has filmed in Bessemer, Mountain Brook and downtown Birmingham at 1st, 2nd and 3rd avenue. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see this cast and crew at work for yourself. A head’s up—you might not be able to get anywhere too close because of street closings.
According to Angel Studios’ website, over $1.7 million was raised in previous crowdfunding rounds from over 3,000 investors. Sci-fi films are some of the biggest box office hits of all time, and The Shift creators think this film is no different.
