The Shift is an uplifting sci-fi film, where Writer/Director Brock Heasley seeks to show the audience that we can maintain hope in the midst of trials. This will be the first feature film supported by Angel Studios, the studio that produced the hit series The Chosen.

Casting Director Michael Wyrosdick says the film will require several hundred people throughout the entire process. The cool part—they are seeking extras!

Earlier in January, producer Ken Carpenter told Bham Now that he knew Birmingham would be a good fit for The Shift.

“Birmingham offers so much that makes shooting the film here a natural choice. The visual textures of the city are ideal, it’s perfectly located between additional resources in Nashville and Atlanta and the community has been very welcoming. We’re grateful to be working here.”

Today, 23rd street parking meters were covered with “closed for filming” signs, and neighborhoods were given notices about the current filming taking place by Film Birmingham. Film Birmingham representatives distributed flyers that expressed to surrounding neighborhoods on 23rd Street that they will make an effort not to disturb residents and “abide by all city filming rules.”

As an initiative of Create Birmingham, Film Birmingham serves as the film office for the Greater Birmingham region. This office assists productions with the permit process and connects with local crews and resources to facilitate communication between productions and the Birmingham community.

The filming schedule for February 2 was 6AM-9PM. Film Birmingham stated that they are holding parking until 10PM tonight and encourage residents to make alternative parking arrangements.

What’s next?

The Shift is scheduled to film around Birmingham through March 3. Production is already in full swing, and we are excited that The Magic City is playing such a big part. Make sure to follow the Extras Casting Birmingham page and Film Birmingham’s website for casting and filming updates.
