Whew, it seems like every day something new and exciting is coming to The Magic City. From cute boutiques to scrumptious bites and a photographer’s paradise, we know of nine businesses that just opened or are coming soon in Birmingham.

1. Flow | Uptown

Looking to rep The Magic City in style? Flow, a clothing boutique in Uptown, has it all, including Bham and UAB shirts, sweatshirts and hats. There are both men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, so everyone can find items for their dream closet. We’re ready to check out this newly opened store for a shopping haul.

2. Woodlawn Marketplace | Woodlawn

Is there a better combo than coffee + shopping? (Rev Birmingham)

If you’re familiar with Woodlawn, you’ve probably shopped at their retail pop-up, Woodlawn Marketplace, which began in the fall of 2021. Now, you can shop the market year-round with a newly opened brick-and-mortar location of the market in the former Woodlawn Cycle Café. You can browse items from 11 local vendors while munching at Pearl’s Café or sipping on a cup of coffee from Trvl Love Koffee—the two food tenants at the store.

“We had amazing success with our pop-up marketplace last fall, which left us all wanting for more. I’m excited to have another opportunity to empower these vendors who have worked so hard to get to this point. With this coffee shop and retail incubator, we are also meeting the needs of the Woodlawn community.”

3. Electra Film Lab | Redmont Park

Photography lovers, your dream just came true. Electra Film Lab is getting ready to open its doors soon as Birmingham’s only operating film lab.

“There isn’t a film lab in Birmingham, and it’s been frustrating to send our photos off to get developed since there is a long turnaround and it is pretty pricey. I’ve been developing my own film at home for a couple of years, so one day I came up to Jake and said, ‘Let’s start our own film lab.’”

Jordan Higgins, Co-owner, Electra Film Lab

Here’s how it will work: once you’ve finished a roll of film, you can drop it off in person or send it in the mail. Then, they will develop, scan and deliver your images electronically. Don’t worry—if you want your negatives back, Electra Film Lab will let you come back to the store or mail them to you.

4. Dream Boat Salon de Beauté | Forest Park

Do you want the ultimate spa treatment without leaving your home? Dream Boat Salon de Beauté—a three-in-one salon concept in Forest Park—just launched their online apothecary. Personally, I’m placing an order for their lemon and lavender sea salt soak—talk about relaxing.

5. tasc Performance | Mountain Brook

I’m always more motivated to work out when I have a cute fit. tasc Performance is crushing the game and it’s more than just having trendy outfits—they’re an eco-friendly New Orleans-based athletic apparel retailer. Now, it’s even easier to shop at this store with their new location that just opened in Lane Park. I’m thinking a new outfit + a smoothie from Clean Juice sounds like the perfect fall day.

6. Double Beauty LLC | Crestwood

This boutique is the definition of a dynamic duo run by twin sisters Iman and Imari Anderson. It’s all about clothes and hair in this store. Now open, Double Beauty home to premium wigs, trendy outfits and all things glam. Can I just say I’m in love with how much pink is in this store?

7. Puckett’s Restaurant | Cullman

Opening this month in the former Ruby Tuesday’s, this Tennessee restaurant is coming to our home sweet home to serve classic, Southern comfort food. You’ll feel like you’re at grandma’s house when you eat Puckett’s smoked meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

8. A4One | Titusville

This nonprofit is gearing up to reopen its doors soon since the construction for the new location is almost done. A4One unites the community through mentoring, coaching and training—helping everyone achieve their fitness goals and experience the benefits of working out. At this new location, members can get excited for:

  • 15,000 square feet of athletic turf
  • Basketball and volleyball court
  • Batting cages
  • Community lounge
  • Cross training box
  • Power lifting and strength platforms
  • Recovery rooms
  • Soccer goals

The official opening date hasn’t been announced yet, so be sure to follow A4One on social media to stay in the know about the opening and membership opportunities.

9. Mr. West’s | Trussville

Grab your crew—we know where you should eat out together. Mr. West’s is now open and serving Trussville some of the most elevated dishes I’ve seen at a fast casual restaurant. I’ve never been able to say no to gyozas and their pork gyozas with a house sauce, green onions and fried garlic is a must-try. Let’s be honest—everything on this menu is something you have to take a bite of.
