Career Opportunities in Real Estate (CORE) is committed to making diversity in real estate a reality, and major industry players are taking notice. Read on to learn more about how Birmingham leader Libby Lassiter shows her support and how you can, too.

Dedicated to diversity and inclusion

Powered by The Alabama Center for Real Estate (ACRE), CORE is a program within the REimagined initiative with one distinct goal: to diversify the world of real estate.

They believe this starts with accessible education, which is where CORE comes in. It is a unique online training course with no prior experience required. It’s also completely scholarship-driven, thanks to some pretty incredible partners….

Meet CORE National Ambassador Libby Lassiter

Allow me to introduce you to one of those stellar partners, Libby Lassiter. She’s the president of Bayer Properties and CORE National Ambassador, a position she takes great pride in.

As CORE National Ambassador, she uses both her regional and national relationships to recruit commercial real estate partners to join Bayer in supporting CORE.

“It is long overdue for the commercial real estate (CRE) industry to diversify. In my career, I have been frustrated by the lack of diversity in applicants for open positions. I realized this is due to a systemic problem of exposure to the CRE industry and access among people of color.

Helping to shepherd diversity into CRE is one of my strongest personal passions.”

—Libby Lassiter, President, Bayer Properties

Libby Lassiter & Bayer Properties show their support

On top of Libby’s work, Bayer Properties serves as a Regional Champion of the CORE program and has committed to a three-year sponsorship. These funds make the program accessible to ALL.

In conjunction with monetary support, the team at Bayer offers mentoring for participants and helps connect program designees with job opportunities

“Bayer Properties understands and believes that a more diverse workforce is a better workforce. While our company is diverse in a lot of ways—for starters, we have two female co-presidents, which is almost unheard of in CRE—we know we have work to do in terms of racial diversity.

In 2020, Bayer founded its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness (IDEA) Committee with the primary purpose being to generate ideas with which leadership can enact real change. Together, leadership and IDEA are focused on more diverse recruiting and hiring efforts and ensuring Bayer is an inclusive, welcoming place for all employees.

Prioritizing CORE is not only the right thing to do—it is the right business decision. Our vision is an industry that looks more like the consumers it serves.”
