7 engaging community sports in Birmingham you should try

Nothing brings people together quite like a shared experience, so why not join one of Birmingham’s community sports organizations to realize your athletic potential? In no particular order, we’ve gathered some community sports to try out for adults and kids.
1. Squad Lacrosse—youth
Known as one of the oldest sports in North America, lacrosse has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the US. Squad Lacrosse is Birmingham’s community sport that focuses on developing and training kids so that they can become leaders in lacrosse.
According to Squad Lacrosse, they develop players physically through fast-paced and high-level lacrosse training. They want to turn everyday lacrosse players into all-stars on the field.
Their summer 2022 training registration is open and training begins May 23.
- Sign up: You must be a US Lacrosse member.
- Cost: $500 per player. The cost includes a 5-week camp, 3 tournaments and a team jersey. Families with 2+ children will receive a discount.
2. Birmingham’s Run Club For Moms
Fit4Mom is a run club for moms with busy schedules. Join their 8-week guided training program designed by moms for moms.
Whether you’re training for a specific running goal such as a 5K, 10K or a half marathon or just wanting to get in shape, this run club is a great opportunity for moms everywhere.

Your first class is free, so you can dip your toes in without having to run blindly into their program.

3. Women’s Rugby
One of the most engaging community sports team in Birmingham would be The Steel, a women’s rugby club.
Even if you’ve never played, this new team welcomes everybody. Plus, they’ll teach you all the ends and outs of the sport.

4. Birmingham Ultimate Disc Alliance
Birmingham Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA) has officially introduced a new all-women’s league to their lineup. This community sport in Birmingham is a space for you to engage in your athletism stress-free while also meeting new people with similar interests.
BUDA offers a variety of options for players looking to get in on the game, including a summer league, women’s league, youth league for players 12-18 and competitive club teams. Register today!

5. Birmingham Beach Adult Volleyball
If you can’t get to the beach right now, bring the beach to you by joining the fun of beach volleyball. Birmingham Beach Adult Volleyball is a group of beach volleyball fans who meet up for impromptu games or tournaments.
Follow their Facebook group to find out when you can sign up. It’s co-ed and no previous volleyball experience is required.

6. Alabama Cornhole
Formed back in 2004, Alabama Cornhole host cornhole competitions at local breweries and events around Birmingham. It’s engaging and a great way to get involved with your community, so why not give it a go?
7. Birmingham Ride Finder
For the bike enthusiasts, there is a group out there for riding on bike trails or just around town. This is one of the community sports in Birmingham that does not require registration.
