Bushwacker Spirits is the Alabama-founded drink you need to add to your cocktail rotation. Get the full scoop on the new shelf-stable spirit and the local investors supporting the “Beach in a Bottle” movement.
Birmingham, meet Bushwacker 💫
If you’ve never heard of a Bushwacker, I’m about to rock your world. The popular Caribbean-inspired cocktail is usually served frozen and features flavors of cream, chocolate and coconut. I like to think of it as an “adult milkshake,” or cousin of a Mudslide, but so much better.
With one sip, you’re transported somewhere warm and tropical. The only downside is that the delicious drink is a bit labor-intensive. You’ll need to source multiple fresh ingredients, a couple different liquors, ice and a blender.
That’s where our friends at Bushwacker Spirits come in, with their Bushwacker aka “Beach in a Bottle.” Sounds pretty perfect to me.
Alabama-founded + supported 🥳
Bushwacker Spirits was founded by Alabama locals Carter Echols and Michael Smith, and has seen subsequent support from Birmingham investors, including Hanna Nall LePere and Madison Greer. Because who doesn’t love a boozy milkshake?
They wanted to make it easier than ever to enjoy the feel-good beverage, and they’ve accomplished just that. Their shelf-stable product contains Caribbean Rum with real dairy cream, natural coconut, coffee and chocolate flavors.
Where to find it 👀
Drooling yet? Don’t worry, we’re lucky enough to have easy access to Bushwacker Spirits. The Alabamian founders wouldn’t leave us hanging like that!
Pick up a bottle at a number of local liquor stores and find it on the menu at popular Birmingham restaurants, including MELT Avondale, which carries a delicious frozen version.

“Birmingham has phenomenal restaurants and spots to grab drinks. Bushwacker is an easy drink to add to any menu, especially for an after-dinner dessert drink!”

How to enjoy it 😋
Personally, I don’t see an issue with pouring this stuff straight over ice, and neither does Bushwacker Spirits investor Madison Greer. (Madisons always know best.)
“I believe there is a need for a product like this because making a bushwacker takes a lot of ingredients and this is easy and affordable! It is perfect for a day at the lake or the beach and you eliminate the hassle for tons of ingredients and even a blender. My husband and I enjoy it over ice the best.”
—Madison Greer, Investor, Bushwacker Spirits
Another team favorite? A little treat we like to call the Bushwacker latte. Simply combine one part Bushwacker with one part milk of choice, then pour in a shot of fresh espresso and enjoy.
Check out Bushwacker Spirits’ website for even more recipe ideas. And, of course, always enjoy responsibly. ☺️
