Whiskey Foxtrot’s new Hoover burger joint is a retro time capsule

Earlier this summer, burger lovers were surprised to learn family-owned Whiskey Foxtrot Burgers Co. was moving away from its original location to a new spot just down the road on Hoover’s Hwy 150.
After visiting the newly opened more Hoover-centric Whiskey Foxtrot at 2801 John Hawkins Parkway next to Tortugas Pizza last week we now know why.
More than a burger joint — a destination
In addition to its gourmet burgers, hot dogs and handcrafted fries the new burger joint is filled with 1970s, 80s and 90s memorabilia.
It’s what makes the new place a destination.
The new spot transports you to an age when Gumby, Star Wars, cassette tapes, pay phones, real paper concert tickets and posters and pinball machines were the norm.
Our favorite piece of memorabilia at Whiskey Foxtrot? The classic McDowell’s” Employee of the Month framed picture of Eddie Murphy’s character Akeem in the movie Coming to America.”
A very appropriate and comical collectible for a burger joint and of course they have it prominently displayed right by the restaurant’s cash register.
Nostalgia and fun
Whiskey Foxtrot’s owner/operator Ben Williams described to Bham Now how he turned his newly relocated burger joint into his family’s own little pop culture museum.
“First and foremost, we got to finally design the place instead of coming behind somebody else’s second generation restaurant and trying to make it work.
As far as the vibe and the decor, most of that is concert posters. My brother and I were big music people. We’re both ’80s kids, so anything that gives that sense of nostalgia — a lot of humor for people our age. It’s a very curated collection of things that just speak to us. The restaurant gives us a great place to showcase it, and we love it.”

Don’t forget the burgers and fries
Despite all the fun curiosities, Whiskey Foxtrot Burgers is unapologetically a burger joint that uses American wagyu beef in all its burgers.
Williams told us their most popular burger is a smashburger called the “Foxtrot” which includes caramelized onions. They have nearly a dozen specialty burger creations with fun names like — Fat Elvis, The Patriot, Triple Lindy and The Buccaneer. View the full specialty burger menu.
