Want to support a local organization this year? Looking for a gift for the person who has everything? Or, perhaps you’d like to turn your passion for gardening into something even greater? The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens need your support—learn how to become a member today and save $10 on any membership level during March Membership Month.
5 reasons you should become a member of the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens
1. Receive discounts around Birmingham and far beyond
With your membership, you’ll automatically get free or discounted access to 340+ botanical gardens across North America. But wait, there’s more!
As a member of the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, you’ll also receive 10% off regularly priced merchandise at Leaf & Petal at the Gardens and lunch at the Gardens Café by Kathy G, plus 10% off regularly priced plant purchases at 10 participating local nurseries, garden centers and flower shops, too.
2. Attend specialized tours and fun events for free
It’s never a dull moment at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. From walking tours and classes to events, camps and activities for children, there’s something for everyone!
Members can expect things like:
- Discounts on select classes and workshops for adults and children.
- Free general admission to Antiques at the Gardens.
- Invitation to the Friends’ Annual Member Celebration.
- Priority registration for special events and children’s summer camps.
For access to these benefits and more, join or renew your membership today.
3. Get member-priority admission to the annual Spring Plant Sale
Want first dibs at FBBG’s popular Spring Plant Sale? Members-only access is Friday, April 8, a full day before the sale opens to the public.
So, if you want to be sure you get your hands on the freshest gorgeous spring plants like camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas, Japanese maples and more, you’ll definitely want early admission to the sale.
4. Rock some serious swag
Did we mention the gifts? Because there are some pretty sweet gifts included in your membership.
When you become a member of the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, you’ll receive a snazzy membership card and FBBG swag of choice based on your membership level (shown above—while supplies last!). Plus, you’ll also receive a complimentary gift plant at the annual Fall Plant Sale.
5. Support a local organization that gives back to our community
The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens give back to the greater Birmingham community in a number of ways. That means your membership will have a rippling effect on serving our community.
One of my personal favorite initiatives is the Friends’ work with the Kingston Coalition and Richard I. Pigford Memorial Teaching Farm. The Friends donate plant materials and supplies such as fertilizer, tools and tomato cages for the use of student and community volunteers at the community garden.
Through services like this (and many other projects), their overall goal shines: “to serve the Gardens, serve the community, serve our visitors and inspire a passion for plants, gardens, and the environment.”
