Spring has sprung—and so have these openings! We’re rounding up 8 of Birmingham buzziest openings this week that are open now and coming soon. Feeling the excitement? Let’s jump in.
1. Effie’s | Homewood
Want to level up your closet this spring? Effie’s Homewood, the new location of popular Tuscaloosa boutique, is opening March 11 and you’re invited to join them. They’ll be serving up bubbly and light bites to kick the shopping off the right way. Check them out in downtown Homewood soon.
Effie’s in Homewood will sell boutique women’s clothes that are meant to turn heads. A pink cropped pant? An asymmetrical yellow jumpsuit? It’s giving spring 2022 in the best way possible—bold and bright.
2. Munchie’s Bar + Grill | Avondale
Munchie’s on 5th is bringing the fun back to this former gas station on Fifth Ave. Owner and local entrepreneur, Chris Hollamon, scooped up the space with a tip from a friend and has made it his very own. Munchie’s officially had its opening debut on Super Bowl Sunday, February 13, and has been serving up Munch Punches (a beverage made with Deep Eddy Peach, Peach Syrup, Sour and Sprite) ever since.
However, like the name, Munchie’s isn’t limited to just drinks. Hollamon says that they serve up a mean hamburger along with good bar food. They also understood the assignment with a weekend brunch menu consisting of Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp & Grits and breakfast sandwich specials.
3. Brock’s Gap Brewing Co. | Hoover
We’ve been counting down the days for one of Birmingham’s buzziest openings, Brock’s Gap Brewing Co, to open and the time is finally here. To our surprise, they opened on March 4—complete with quite an eager crowd. With a rotating food truck and outdoor space to host local events, it’s sure to be a can’t miss.
We have our eyes on the Going Going Blonde, a pale American blonde ale inspired by their neighbors at the Hoover Met. Tell us what you’re trying first, Bham! We’ll take all of the recommendations.
4. Quake Plus Size | Birmingham
Ever wanted a thrift store that caters to all? Meet Quake—the perfect way to shop sustainably while catering specifically towards womxn who are in plus sized bodies. It’s meant to be a safe space for those who want to be creative with their fashion—inclusive to all sizes, shapes and genders.
This new business is also Black-owned and womxn-owned, as if we needed any convincing to check it out. You’ll find them at MAKEbhm in a shared space with Wild Honey Flower Studios, opening Saturday, March 12, 2022 from noon-4PM.
5. Two Men and a Truck | Irondale
This popular moving company is moving into a new space in Irondale. Two Men and a Truck is opening one of their largest locations nationwide, right here in Irondale. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, they purchased the building for $2.5 million—formerly the Alabama Department of Labor.
Along with the building, business keeps booming. They plan on hiring 20 employees and have purchased six trucks to make their moves in The Magic City. You can find moving services, supplies and everything you need at this new location, open now.
6. Biscuit Love | Parkside
Parkside at Dolly Ridge Road is getting a new tenant. This Nashville-based spot started with humble beginnings as a food truck and quickly expanded to three locations across Middle Tennessee. Biscuit Love serves up a delicious breakfast and has won several awards, including “Best Sandwich of 2015” by Bon Appétit.
Big news for Vestavia! This new 14,935 square-foot, mixed-use development in Cahaba Heights will be located right beside Cahaba Heights Elementary and the new City of Vestavia Cahaba Heights community park and baseball fields—a win for families nearby. This project is slated to be completed by the end of the year—we’ll take the Shrimp and Grits, please.
7. X4 Fitness | Downtown
The fitness studio that has swept Lane Parke by storm, X4 Fitness, is about to do it again. This new downtown location, scheduled to open in June, will be housed right under the New Ideal Lofts. While having The Pizitz as a neighbor already seems like one of the biggest flexes, the real treat is the X4 team partnering with local businesses to give specials and discounts.
If you’re at the Lane Parke location but want to give the new location a try, they make it super easy. You’ll be able to use the same membership at both locations. They’ve already posted a sneak peek of the new space on their Instagram—go check it out.
